Guest Reviews & Cape SanBlas Trip Reports – Barrier Dunes Vacation Rentals on Cape San Blas & their visit to “The Forgotten Coast!” Many have shared pictures of their memories too! When you return from your Cape San Blas vacation we would love to have your vacation review & pictures too!
Wendy, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our first trip to the Cape. Sea Breeze (52) far exceeded our expectations. We found the home very clean and well stocked, (which was much appreciated). It was also very short walk to beach and pool areas. We really loved the beach (great sunset’s!), both pool areas and just relaxing. Husband really enjoyed fishing on beach. Would highly recommend the Cape to anyone who travels with their pets. We travel with our 8yr old Maltipoo, who loves the beach as much as we do!! Pleased to find such a pet friendly place!! This was our first time to area, but hopefully not our last. We loved everything about the Cape and hope to be repeat guests at Sea Breeze. Thank you for making the whole process so easy and being available for any questions we had.
All was perfect and another memorable family gathering. Your communication was impeccable.
Lori Bass (May 2017) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We had an amazing time at the Cape! The weather and beach were truly beautiful! Thank you so much for ensuring the condo was clean and well stocked! We found it very easy to just arrive and start having fun! We ate twice at Coneheads and found the hamburgers were delicious! Our 3 year old loved getting ice cream there and we would ride our bikes back and forth from the condo. My husband and I are trying to find time to come back later in summer.
Thanks for all your help making our vacation amazing!
Linda and Bill Clark (May 2017) Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise
We so enjoyed our two week stay at Cape Escape! The house was spotless and all of your communication with us helped immensely to acclimate to our temporary digs. The beach was pristine, loved the dog friendly, bonfire on the beach at night and it not being crowded at any time! I brought some kitchen stuff because I love to cook, but found out it was unnecessary because of how well equipped your kitchen was. Job well done. Trust me, when we visit this area in the future, you will be the one we contact and highly recommend it without reservation!! Thanks again Wendy.
Katherine Baskin (April/May 2017) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
Walking on Sunshine” is a great place to spend time with family and pets. We enjoyed having so many amenities and the condo was decorated very nicely with lots of extras. We especially enjoyed our time on the deck. Sunsets were incredible and the beach is right there. Barrier Dunes is a great place for pets. We met so many nice people and our dog Freddie loved meeting all the other dogs when on his walks. We highly recommend “Walking on Sunshine” for everyone, especially with the great service you will receive from Wendy. She’s the best!
Walter Border (April 2017) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
Cape Escape II was wonderful! We loved being right on the lake. Being morning people, we would get up and watch the sunrise off the back deck. Lots of turtles in the lake and we enjoyed feeding then. They would anticipate us when we came out on the back deck and all start swimming over. The home was beautifully decorated and we liked that it was an end unit. It had everything you could imagine…we didn’t even get everything out of our car once we had a look around! It was VERY clean, which we really appreciated!
We are so glad we found Cape San Blas for the 1st time. The beaches are beautiful. We have been going to Destin and loved the fact there was no crowds. Restaurants were close and we enjoyed the convenience stores on the Cape when we needed something.
Thank you for answering all of our questions before our trip since we haven’t been to Cape San Blas before. Once we arrived, the guest information book was VERY thorough and we enjoyed doing some of the things that were covered in the book. Was nice to have all that information there and not have to research the area or do internet research. We will definitely be back again!
The Milliron’s (April 2017) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
We had such a lovely time! Everything worked great, the condo was perfect and were so glad we found you! Thanks for accommodating us so last minute.
Felicity Palmer (April 2017) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
We really enjoyed Barrier Dunes and your condo was perfect and above our expectations. We used the upper balcony to enjoy an evening glass of wine and watch the sunset.
Fergus (the dog) loved his early morning beach runs and would then happily sit on the deck with his nose between the rungs watching the world go by. As tennis players, it was nice to have a couple of courts and amazingly there was always one free when we wanted to play
One week wasn’t enough but after a week socializing with friends in Naples, it was certainly a relaxing way to end our trip. Another time we would spend a day or two checking out Appalachicola which looked an attractive little town. We may well be back in contact for another trip next spring!
Danielle Jewell (March 2017) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
We had a fantastic time on our Cape Escape Barrier Dunes 67 was perfect – fully stocked with everything and anything we could have needed and super clean and comfortable. We really felt at home all week, so much better than staying in a hotel!
Our pup wasn’t all that fond of the water, but he did enjoy the beach and meeting all kinds of doggie friends. I wasn’t sure about how the vacation with the dog would go, but it worked out great. Everything was very clean and the people and dogs were all very friendly.
Andrew Ross and Famly (March 2107)
Our experience was great. Cape San Blas is truly lovely. The miles of open beach makes for great strolls up and down the peninsula. Our dog loved going in and out of the water and rolling in the sand.
Barrier Dunes is a fantastic facility. It was fully stocked with so many of the things from home so just getting there was the hard part. Wendy prepared us for what to bring and what was there for us. The whole process was very easy.
Stephen Hathoway (Jan/Feb 2017) Shore Thang – Barrier Dunes 2
Just returned from “the Cape”, and had a fabulous time! We’ve rented properties throughout the US, and this was, by far, the best outfitted we’ve experienced. Besides all the amenities, Shore Thang had plenty of room, a gorgeous view right on the beach, and was well equipped for our 8 lb. pooch! Also, the unit was extremely clean when we arrived. While enjoying all the walking areas throughout the complex, we also made sure to take a long daily walk on the beach, which the dog thoroughly enjoyed. Also, we can’t thank Wendy and her crew enough for being so responsive and accommodating (the heater in the unit went out…we called, and all was perfectly fixed in less than 2 hours.) If you like sand, sun and the sea, I’d totally recommend this place at Barrier Dunes.
Graham and Carol Jones (Febuary 2017) Barrier Dunes 7 – Tropical Breeze
Back home in KY safe and sound, but missing the sound of the sea and the smell of the salt air already! Had business not called, we would have loved to stay longer and just zoned out next to the sea.
House was in great shape when we arrived and we tried to leave it as we found it. I know how difficult it is to maintain a seaside home, and how much work it takes to keep the elements from causing deterioration and damage. That’s probably why we appreciated the condition and cleanliness of the place.
For future guests, I would recommend a morning walk by the sea, followed by donuts at the ‘Trading Post’ just down the street. Swim in the sea before noon, read or nap on the lanai until 5, then, at least twice, treat yourself to oysters or steamed shrimp at Indian Pass Raw Bar ten minutes down the street (they’ve got hamburgers and gumbo, too). It’s one of the most authentic and excellent old Florida eateries in the State, and I’ve been from Destin to Jacksonville to Key West and never had oysters as good, except occaionally in New Orleans at three times the price!
The Sunset Grille in Port St. Joe is also good for a quieter dinner. They have great scallops and swordfish as well, plus a full bar if gin-and-tonic or martinis are your fancy.
Cell phones seem to work at the Trading Post area and sometimes on the beach…..sort off nice to be away from the ring tone for a while. Internet wi-fi is fine in the unit as is cable TV, so you never feel totally isolated despite being able to see a thousand stars at night over the beach and sea without hotel, traffic or city lights washing them out. It’s very much like standing on the Gulf shore of Florida in the ’60s before everyone else found out how squeaky, white and fine the sand was on the Gulf.
Again, Wendy, thanks for the experience and providing such a nice beach-front unit. Hope to see you next winter…..
Good memories, Graham & Carol
Debby Youell (January 2017) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
We stayed at Sea Breeze for two weeks in January. Our only regret is that we didn’t plan to stay longer! Everything about Barrier Dunes was absolutely perfect for us…from outstanding communication with Wendy, to the beautiful condo and its location near the beach, and especially the fact that the condo AND the beach were dog friendly. We had never vacationed with Charlie (a full-size Collie!) before but he loved the beach as well. We met so many wonderful, friendly people (and their fur-children!) and we are planning to go back next year for a month.
What we loved most, besides the dog-friendly atmosphere, is that Cape San Blas is quiet this time of year and somewhat remote. Golf and restaurants aren’t too far away, though. We found a couple of restaurants that allowed Charlie to come along too! We met a couple on the beach that was from our home state and the guys played golf a couple of times. We got lots of exercise walking through the neighborhood and on the beach; when it was cool outside we took the time to get caught up on some reading. We give Sea Breeze and Barrier Dunes an A+!
Karen Fuller (January 2017) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
I just spent three weeks in Barrier Dunes on Cape San Blas. My husband was with me for a few days and my daughter joined me for my last week there. We stayed in Shore Thang #2 which was managed by Wendy Jackson. I can’t say enough good things about the experience from start to finish. First of all, Wendy was immensely helpful, prepared with any information needed and responded immediately to any concerns or questions. The unit itself was sparkling clean and lovely; every possible need had been anticipated and provided for.
The pet-friendly gated community was nestled on beautiful park-like grounds with ponds, fountains, and many lovely observation decks, gazebos, and walkways. The beach was pristine with beautiful white sand and the sunsets were spectacular.
Barrier Dunes is next door to a state park with access to St. Joseph Bay. It is stunningly beautiful park and a must see. Many things to do there.
We took several day excursions to Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe, and our favorite, Apalachicola. Sitting bayside at Boss Oyster with our dog, while
eating fabulous local seafood was a highlight.
But upon return from our excursions we always commented that nothing we had seen was as beautiful and peaceful as Cape San Blas. It is rare to go somewhere and find that every single aspect of the experience exceeded your expectations but this was one of those rare times.
Susan O’Neal (January 2017) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
Amy, Lana, and I had a GREAT time at the beach in Turtle Crawl! The weather was beautiful and the condo was clean and well stocked and furnished. Thank you for your help in making last minute plans. You are always easy to work with and I appreciate your helpfulness. Attached are a few of pictures.
Sharlene Tix (January 2017) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
Kathy Roudebush (December 2016) Barrier Dunes 7 – Tropical Breeze
Thank you for a wonderful mini vacation! Loved our condo right on the beach. Beautiful sunsets, beautiful white sand and wonderful accommodations. It was so nice to be somewhere where dogs are loved. All the the shops in Apalachicola and Port St Joe were quaint and were dog friendly. I will definitely be back!
Philip and Michelle Elrod (December 2016) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
Michelle and I want to thank you so much for providing us a wonderful place for the holidays. We got much needed R&R and truly enjoyed our stay! The condo was in the perfect location and was exactly what we needed. We noticed right away that we had nothing to worry about because it was all right there when we arrived. The beach was so close and we ended up catching about 30 whiting in the surf. We noticed right away that the people in the complex were super nice. The atmosphere was relaxed and the weather was awesome! I would highly recommend your place to anyone who wants a worry free vacation…short or long…to relax, enjoy the beach and the serenity of it all…Thank you again for a great get away!
Jennifer Soehner (December 2016)
We had such a great time at the Cape over Christmas! This is our 4th Christmas coming down to the cape and the condo was one of the nicest we have stayed in! The amenities were great and the furniture and beds were very comfortable!! When we first walked into the condo it had such a nice and cozy feel to it. It was clean and well taken care of. The pond view was great and it was fun feeding the turtles off the deck. It was also great that there was a boardwalk right across the street that took us directly to the beach! The beach chairs and the beach cart were one of the best amenities that the condo had!! It made taking everything we wanted to take down to the beach very easy!
Riley Wultz (December 2016) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
My wife, our dog, and I want to tell you how enjoyable our stay in your Unit 191 in December was. When we arrived, we found the unit, and everything in it, to be very clean. The unit was very well supplied with virtually anything a vacationer could need or want.
Kathy Baker (December 2016) Barrier Dunes 4 – SeaScape
There aren’t enough good things to say about our stay at the Cape this week with the lovely accommodations Wendy arranged for my family! This is our second trip and will definitely not be our last. Wendy does a great job making sure you have everything you need for a week in paradise. Thank you Wendy!!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!
Kevin McReynolds (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
We enjoyed staying at Water’s Edge – Barrier Dunes #177. The kitchen was well appointed. We cooked a full Thanksgiving meal and did not have to buy additional equipment/utensils, etc. We appreciated having the washer/dryer upstairs and there were plenty of linens and towels. The access to the beach was very good and the community of Barrier Dunes was very quiet, friendly and inviting.
The beach chairs and sand cart were very much appreciated. We donated a beach umbrella to the beach gear.
We were surprised to see an armadillo sniffing through the grass outside of our unit! The bird watching was good for this time of year. We saw a bald eagle and then later saw three American white pelicans (somewhat rare) as well as other typical shore birds. Of course, the sunsets were amazing – they always are at the Cape. A few porpoises were corralling fish just beyond the sand bar and provided quite a show.
It was great to get to the Cape during Thanksgiving and we appreciate the amenities offered by #177.
Melissa Miears (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
Wonderful Thanksgiving Week 2016.
Ben Hawkins (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Beeze
Thanks, Wendy. We had a great vacation. The beach was beautiful and the condo was perfect for our family. The Cape is a great place to spend thanksgiving. Hope to get back.
Jeff Burke (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 12 – PelicanView
Arrived back home safe and sound and refreshed. The relaxation afforded from the Evans unit (Pelican View #12) and surroundings (gulf front ocean view from bedroom, living room, and deck) is phenomenal. It is a true “home away from home” feeling one gets when staying here. The seclusion and privacy this location offers is hard to come by these days. For me, Fall is the best time to visit. You can walk on the beach with your dog for miles and not see anyone! It’s as if you have the whole place to yourself and whomever you would like to share that experience with.
I went down with the intention of sharing this special place with a shelter dog I have adopted. Lexie is a very sweet shy young girl (hound mix)…seeing her wide eyed reaction to the sand and ocean for the first time was priceless!!! We did 7-mile bike rides down to the trading post store and back every morning. She runs by my side, on a leash, as I ride. We then relaxed on the deck to perfect weather. The afternoon and evening temps on average 72/52F respectively with wind and ocean calm. She improved her swimming skills and played with other well-mannered dogs.
Prior to arriving at the Cape Friday afternoon, we of course stocked up on a week’s worth of groceries at the piggly wiggly and also made a pit stop at Port St Joe’s Shrimp Co for some tuna steaks and shrimp. Thanks for your hospitality Wendy, have a great Thanksgiving!
Christina Costa (November 2016)
We would like to thank the owners of “Paradise” for sharing their home with us. We found the home well taken care of and beautifully decorated.
When I arrived and opened the curtains from the balcony I was presented with the most beautiful beach with dolphins playing in the ocean. We feel a sleep every night to the sound of the ocean.
What else can you ask for?
Paula Maltman (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
We had a wonderful weekend! We all loved the house, especially its location and the easy access to the beach! Our dogs quickly learned their way around and made a beeline for the path as soon as we said “time to head to the beach!” Morning coffee on the deck, a beach fire at sunset, dolphins playing in the surf – all made for a relaxing time! This was a first visit to the Cape for all of us – we certainly understand why everyone falls in love with the serenity of this quiet community. We literally had the beach all to ourselves! I’m so glad I found The Cape Escape website when we looked for rental properties.
Donny Maddox (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We truly enjoyed the time we spent on the Cape! Thank you so much for taking such good care of us with limited notice of arrival. We were so comfortable that we even extended our stay with you and we will be back in to see you soon.
Sherry & Steve Hillis (November 2016) Barrier Dunes 4- SeaScape
We stayed in Barrier Dunes in November and our condo was right on the beautiful beach. We had a wonderful time walking our two shelties on the beach and sitting on the deck watching the sun set over the Gulf. Our favorite trip was to Apalachicola and taking the dogs to Oysterbones and for lunch at Up the Creek. We really enjoyed eating oysters and shrimp at Indian Pass Raw Bar.
Rich and Karen Koboldt (October 2106) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
We enjoyed our time at Barrier Dunes immensely! The home was so comfortable it was almost like being at home!
We enjoyed exploring the beach and looking for shells. We also went to St. Joseph State park and checked out the beach and dunes there. Another day we rented kayaks and paddled around the bay. We also took a trip to Apalachicola and did some souvenir shopping and ate lunch at the Owl Cafe….delicious! We also went to Mexico beach and had dinner at a seafood restaurant called Toucans. Towards the end of our trip we to St. George Island….very beautiful!!
We had such a wonderful time and wished we could have stayed longer. We hope to return to Cape San Blas soon. When we do…we’d love to stay at Barrier Dunes!
Lori Green & family (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise
What a beautiful weekend! Every feature of the home exceeded our expectations and although I realize there was no way for the owners to coordinate this detail- the weather couldn’t have been more perfect the entire time we were there! We are long-time visitors to Cape San Blas and it truly has some of the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve ever seen so we were thrilled to be able to see them right from the deck of this house! Thanks for a weekend my family and I will remember for years to come!
Katie Moore (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 188 – Turtle Tracks
We had a GREAT time and didn’t want to come back home.
Lauren Hinton (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Wendy thank you for everything that you did to help us get a mini vacation.
Cape Escape Vacation Rentals was extremely easy to work with. Wendy made sure that we had all the information that we needed prior to our arrival on the cape and at Barrier Dunes, Waters Edge. The nicest part besides being at the beach was that for our short stay we did not need to worry about essentials, paper towels, toilet paper cooking spices etc. More importantly. we did not need to bring our own linens they were provided for humans and our pets. The condo was steps away from the beach and the park where we could snorkel and my son could fish. Beach chairs were ready and anything else you could want was waiting! Thank you so much for an excellent mini vacation!
Cindy Campbell (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 2- Shore Thang
We had a great time at your place. It was so very clean and well-equipped. I’m glad you felt that we took good care of your home because we certainly tried to. It’s very unusual to find a place that allows us to bring our three golden retrievers. No matter how much we say that they are well-behaved and that we will take good care of things, we typically get turned away. When people say they’ll allow dogs they usually mean one dog less than 10 pounds! We never want to take advantage when we find someone as generous as you, thus we try very hard to keep things nice.
Bill and Sandy (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
We arrived home safely and are recovering from vacation. We enjoyed our stay at Barrier Dunes. While we were there we took a sunset horseback ride with Two Bit Stables and enjoyed exploring the area. We visited Apalach and found it quaint while we were there we ate at the OWL restaurant food was excellent. We enjoyed the Indian Pass Raw Bar the baked oysters were superb and the steam shrimp was excellent. We ate at the Dockside Resturant twice and sat in their dog-friendly outside seating area. I am attaching a couple of pictures.
S. Wells (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We had a very special 3 days at the Cape! Thank you for providing an attractive, spotless clean, well equipped, perfectly located home for us-the turtles greeted us in the mornings and sunsets gave us a glorious “good night”–Thank you for helping us to make it a most memorable time!
Beth Simpson (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We so enjoyed having time to be quiet and just be on the beach. The place was quiet, clean and lovely. If you need a place to retreat or a home away from home, this is a great spot!
Marlene Carver (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Hi Wendy……we had a WONDERFUL time and Cape San Blas is now OFFICIALLY OUR FAVORITE BEACH of anywhere we have been before. It was great to be able to take our “doggie daughter” with us instead of worry about her being away from her family. The Waters Edge was just beautiful and more well equipped than my home! We had everything we needed down to a muffin pan. We had trouble with the TV (only because we are not technologically savvy) and the manager on site was ringing our doorbell within 30 seconds of calling her. We will definitely be back! Thanks for everything!
Debra Marler (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Turtle Crawl. It’s such a “beachy” house and very relaxing. We actually came there to ride out Hurricane Matthew. What a blessing to have found your lovely house. My sister was visiting from PA and really enjoyed her stay. We loved being able to walk to the beach. We ate at Sunset Coastal Grille the last night we were there. The food was good and the view spectacular.
A little bit of history: My husband’s great uncle, Ernest Marler, was the Asst. lighthouse keeper at Cape San Blas lighthouse and died in 1938 (he was actually murdered according to historical records, but it is still unknown who did it and why). There is a book published called “Secrets of Cape San Blas!” It’s based on Ernest Marler but fictional. Very interesting read. It’s a coincidence that the code was the same as the date he died. Also, there was a picture of the lighthouse on the wall. And the master bedroom had a plaque with “Captain’s Quarters” on it. My husband is a Captain, his father was a Captain and his grandfather was a Captain. All from Destin, Fl. My husband’s name is David Ernest Marler, named after his great uncle. You can imagine our surprise when we arrived to find all of this. It was like it was meant to be!
We would love to come back again when were not escaping storms and can take advantage of all that you have to offer.
Thank you for the short mini vacation in your beautiful house!
Debra Marler (The “Captain’s” Wife)
Angela Bradley October 2016 Barrier Dunes 13 – The Hideaway
We hated to leave the “Hideaway” yesterday. We had a great time and with the hurricane on the east coast we were blessed with nothing but sunny, clear blue skies our entire stay. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your place with us. I have never stayed in a rental that was so well stocked with everything to make our stay comfortable. My mother got very excited when she was able to use her cell phone from the balcony of the twin bedroom. The rest of us just turned our phones off and enjoyed the rest and relaxation.
I hope we can rent from you again as we voted the “Hideaway” to be the best place we have ever stayed at the beach !!
Anna Eddy (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
We so enjoyed our stay away from home. The place was immaculate, had all the necessary staples and in general all the accommodations were extremely comfortable. It was our home away from home! The beach front property will remain in our minds forever!! We certainly will make arrangements to come back in the future.
Jean Williams (October 2016) Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise
Our first visit to Cape San Blas was a wonderful visit.
Paradise #11 was all that we needed to enjoy and just relax. We didn’t need to go out for meals. Had a lot of fun visiting the fresh seafood market and cooking our own seafood.
The beach was beautiful and not crowded. Our Yorkie wasn’t so sure about the sand but after one trip in the water, he was hooked.
Our son and his fiance were with us. They will be getting married in the Spring and have decided to spend their honeymoon on the Cape.
Looking forward to our next visit to Paradise.
Darlene and Rob Jurand (September 2016) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
Gulf Breeze was clean, completely outfitted with all we needed and it enabled us to have a wonderful vacation. You told me you thought we would like Gulf Breeze and you were right. My husband commented on the “Relax” sign in the kitchen and said it was so appropriate because that is exactly what we did. What a great complex and area–you guys have really found a jewel of a spot in the world.
Hannah Harris (September 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
Thank you so much for being so accommodating! The Cape was great and Walking on Sunshine was amazing! The only thing we regret about our stay is that it was too short! We loved that we were able to bring our dog. She had a blast hanging out on the beach with us all day. After such a positive experience, we think we will make this our new family vacation spot!
Thanks for everything!!
Russell & Pam Waldner (September 2016) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
Our vacations are rarely more than 4 days including travel. We were certain we would go stir crazy. We were wrong, the weather could not have been better and we were dog tired by the end of each day and still have things we wanted to do that were left undone.
We ate at local places…I think at least once every day…we rented kayaks…we shopped at many local stores and we saw amazing views. I attached a photo of sights you see all the time but we enjoyed.
We had an outstanding time and have already recommended Cape San Blas to friends and family.
We had a good time and were very comfortable in your outstanding accommodations.
I don’t think any of this is marketing material but we had a wonderful time.
I think the only surprise in our stay was how at home we felt.
The Stewart’s – Repeat Guests (September 2016) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
Wendy, Thanks so much for finding us a BEAUTIFUL rental on such short notice! We all appreciate you getting things set up so quickly so that we could extend our time at the Cape (a week is never enough). Barrier Dunes is almost like our second home and Unit 52 had a great view and location. It was so nicely decorated and you always have so many extras included it’s hard to beat!! I couldn’t get over how great the beach looked and how calm and clear the water was. September and October always means fewer people on the beach, less heat and humidity, better nights for bonfires and shorter lines for eating out! Glad to see ya’ll down there enjoying yourselves as well! Can’t wait to come back down again, Georgia, Ashlyn, Sparky and Roxy
The Duvall’s (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
This was our first year staying on “the forgotten coast”, we certainly hope it stays that way. The beach is absolutely beautiful, clear water and very uncrowded beach almost like having a private beach. We have been vacationing along the gulf coast for over 25 years this year was our very favorite. From the very first contact, Wendy made the planning for our vacation easy responding promptly to our questions. The pictures on the website are very accurate in representing the town home, community and beach. The townhouse was clean, spacious and comfortable. When we vacation we love to buy fresh seafood cook in the evenings. The kitchen in BD #15 is an ideal place for cooking as it is spacious and well equipped. We plan to return next year and for many more! Thank you Wendy, for making this the best vacation on the gulf ever!!
Aysha Stewart (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
Thank you so much for all of your help in scheduling this trip! We had an absolutely wonderful time. The condo was so nice and clean, it had everything we could have asked for and it truly felt like home. We were all really impressed with how lovely the condo and beach were. The beach was fantastic, not too crowded and very pristine. We enjoyed taking walks on the beach with the pups and shelling, along with just spending hours being lazy and watching the waves roll in while we relaxed on the beach. To top of an incredible vacation, my sister and her boyfriend got engaged while we were there! I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves and how nice the condo and area were. We are already talking about booking with you again next year, hopefully for an even longer stay!! I personally forgot to take pictures (I never remember to take pictures!) but I will check with everyone else and email you any pictures we have of the dogs enjoying the beach. Thank you again for all of your help and hospitality! I look forward to returning to the Cape soon!!
Lisa Shortino (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Everything was great, sunny days and long walks on the beach. We were able to completely relax.
Thanks for making our trip so easy! I highly recommend Coneheads to future guests for lunch, dinner and ice cream. The staff were all so nice and the food was very good!
Mary Nagle (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
Thank you, Wendy, we had a lovely time during our short stay. We wished we could have stayed longer. The rental home was nice and efficient. It is truly just a short walk or steps to the beach. The beach buggy was very helpful to carry the beach items. Turtle Crawl was supplied with all the starter needs and even came with wood to have a small fire on the beach, however, we did not do-it was way too hot to do so. Our dogs enjoyed the morning/evening walks on the beach. It was nice to bring them, although, they were too chicken to go into the water! The area is very well maintained and quiet, the way we like it. We will sure be a return customer!!
Susie Best (August 2016) Repeat Guest Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
Thank you, Wendy, for a great experience at Cape San Blas. We have been coming to the Cape for many, many years. We love the beach and love Barrier Dunes. This was our second time staying in this Condo and it was one of the best we have stayed in. Well stocked, comfortable beds (we’ve stayed in some condos that I would have rather slept on the floor than the bed) & very clean. I also appreciate the beach closet stocked with beach chairs, beach gear, toys for the sand…one less thing you have to pack in your car. It rained three out of the five days we stayed but we had a great time anyway. We went to Apalachicola on one day where we ate at The Owl Cafe and tried some of the beer at Oyster City Brewing Company (very good). The condo was stocked with board games and we really enjoyed playing games on the other days. Our granddaughter enjoyed the turtles in the pond and boy are there a lot of turtles! We will definitely consider coming back to this condo.
Jill Bostick (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
We had a great time. Bear (our Golden Retriever) may have had the most fun of all. He really loves the water. We had one rainy day while we were there but were able to get a lot of time on the beach. Thanks so much! We’ll certainly book again.
Eric Price (August 2016) Repeat Guest Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
This was our second consecutive year to Cape San Blas via the Barrier Dunes and booking through Wendy. This year like last was a blast. We did a whole lot less this year as far as the area attractions are concerned. We brought most everything we needed with us & didn’t get out of the house too much. It rained a lot. That did not keep us from the beach however. We had a blast the entire time. Wendy and Soni responded to every question & concern we had while we were there and they did so with a quickness. We will definitely be coming back. We brought our two Border Collies with us and they had an absolute scream and never wanted to leave the beach. The word “beach” is now solidified in their minds with the Barrier Dunes at Cape San Blas. My 3-year-old son couldn’t get enough of any of it. Between the pool, the beach itself, and the other kids there tooling around in the sand and surf he was in bliss. It truly is one of the greatest family getaways we have known. The only drawback is that the time goes by way too quickly in the Cape. We will try and amend that on our next pass with a much longer stay!
Paulette Smith (August 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
We loved the Cape . . . . it was our first trip to that area, and hopefully not our last.
Next time, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for better weather!! There was plenty to do inside, so even with the rain, we enjoyed just unwinding and catching up on reading, and even a board game or two. We still had some wonderful walks on the beach . . . . and Kenzie (choc. Lab.) was so funny trying to figure out the sand and the waves!! She loved it too!
Your condo was perfect!! One of the prettiest views of the beach EVER, and the sunsets were amazing.
We’ll stay in touch, and hopefully, plan another trip for next year.
Lisa Byrd (Aug. 2016) Barrier Dunes 4 – SeaScape
Wendy, we couldn’t have asked for anything better for a vacation. Cape San Blas is beautiful and the Barrier Dunes were spectacular! We had so much fun snorkeling, crab hunting, relaxing on the beach and getting some fresh seafood. The house is perfect and so well supplied. We cooked in a lot and we had everything we needed. We brought our Goldendoodle and she had a great time on the beach meeting other dogs. The people there are all very friendly and we will definitely be coming back again. It’s our new best-kept secret for a peaceful relaxing getaway!
Robin Brainard (July 2016) Barrier Dunes 67- Cape Escape I
We LOVED our stay! It was hard to leave!
We can’t wait to return and would love to book 416 Barrier Dunes Dr. (Barrier Dunes 67) was it was very convenient to get to and from the beach!
Roger Harelson (July 2016) Barrier Dunes 7 – Tropical Breeze
We made this year an extended family vacation. My sister-in-law, her grown children, spouses, and grandchildren were next door. We had a great time on the beach, in the pool and on our decks with the best view of the ocean you could ask for. Our children met some of their cousins that were in the area at the Indian Pass Raw Bar and all were impressed with the atmosphere and quality of the food. My wife, sister-in-law and I ate a Triple Tails between the Cape and Port St. Joe and would highly recommend it as a quaint local place to eat (excellent food). Having traveled all over while in the military I can honestly say there are no prettier beaches in the world than the panhandle of Florida and Cape San Blas is the greatest hidden secret of the Florida coast. If you are looking for the ideal place Tropical Breeze (BD7) is it.
Dana Henderson (July 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We had a great time and loved the place we stayed. For potential guests who do not have pets, I was worried about going to a place that allowed pets because of smell, etc., and almost didn’t book. However, I must say, it was CLEAN and there was NO smell. The dogs on the beach were leashed, well behaved and did not bother us in any way. I would recommend this place for those who don’t have pets.
Sandy Dean (July 2016) Barrier Dunes 188 – Turtle Tracks
We absolutely loved it. Wendy! You will be hearing from us again but for a longer stay. Thank you for all the great info and communicating so well. It meant a lot to us.
Jennifer Roberts and Family – Repeat Guests (July 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
We loved being so close to the beach and I love that it was always very clean! Everyone really seems to take care in picking up after themselves. The water was amazing as always and we had wonderful weather all week long!
Tammy Brown & Family (June 2016) Barrier Dunes 12 – Pelican View
We had a wonderful time at Cape San Blas. The condo was absolutely perfect! This is our 3rd time visiting the Cape and staying at Barrier Dunes 12 – Pelican View. We love it. Condo was well stocked. We built bonfires on the beach at night and met lots of new friends. We also went horseback riding on the beach at sunset which was wonderful! I’m sending you some pictures of our fun times. As you can see our dogs had just as much fun as we did!!
Thanks again for everything. We will be back next year!
Robin Reichman (June 2016) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine and Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
Our trip was perfection for our family reunion. Wendy’s instructions were thorough and easy to navigate. She was very responsive to any questions we had. The units we rented were clean and well stocked. The beach is as beautiful as always. I would heartily recommend enjoying your vacation at Cape San Blas and using Wendy and her rental company. A+!
Elsa Donates & Family (June 2016) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
Had an amazing time at your place , it was very clean and very accommodating.. The cape is very family oriented and pet friendly which made it very special to be able to bring our four legged baby..I truly enjoyed the visit there, life is about making memories and we definitely made a few. My son got engaged on the beach at sundown and the event was amazing!!! Looking forward to coming back real soon…Thank you again!!!
Karen Wolfe and Family (June 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
We arrived back home (all of us and pups) safely yesterday. We were tired but already missing the lovely condo and the beach we left behind. I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful experience we had renting through you. I have already told all my friends all about the place and our experience. I will email you more details this week and some pictures once I get them uploaded off my camera. Thank you again for giving us a vacation we’ll never forget!
Bona Allen (June 2016) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang. The unit was clean, bright, well-appointed, and very comfortable. It is only a few steps away from the beach, and the views from each of the beachside balconies are incredible.
Cathy Cates (May 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Thank you for the kind email and especially for the fantastic experience in your condo! I will take the time to write something for the website, as I found the condo well appointed and with all the thoughtful things that made the trip super easy!
Kay Swindle (May 2016) Barrier Dunes 4 – SeaScape
Thank you, Wendy!
I highly recommend this home to anyone visiting the Cape and especially to go thru YOU! you have been the most caring and concerned property manager we have ever encountered! THANK YOU! We will definitely call YOU when we decide to return to the Cape!
Wayne Carr (May 2016) Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
We and our dog enjoyed our stay very much and we plan to return. The Cape is a beautiful place and quite, which is nice in comparison to the hustle and bustle of many of the other options. There was very little traffic and no noise. I didn’t see a single parasail, fly by advertisement or party boat. In fact, only one airplane flew by and it looked lost.
We stopped on the way in and bought groceries but we discovered that if we needed anything the grocery store next to the donut shop had a little of everything. In fact, we bought a couple of filets from there that were as good as any I’ve had. For us, having the state park next door and the bike path the entire length of the Cape was great. It was nice to mix a little riding and exploring with beach time. This was our dog’s first beach vacation and our first time to have a dog with us at the beach. It won’t be our last. Dogs are experts at relaxation and our dog gave us several suggestions for how to maximize our relaxation time
Vivian Pozo (April 2016) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
Wendy: we had a great time visiting the Cape! Beaches were absolutely beautiful and the “squeaky” sugar sand brings back memories of my childhood. We spent a day kayaking the leeward side of St. Vincent National Wildlife Preserve and did a hike over the island tip to the beach side. Such a peaceful and enchanting place is St. Vincent! Did some biking another day into St Joseph Peninsula State Park and then south on the bike trail, fabulous biking! So much to do and too little time. We wished we didn’t have to leave so soon. My husband said it is best to leave before you want to because that means you want to return!
Julie E. (April 2016) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
We enjoyed exploring/visiting Cape San Blas and only wish we had more time. The Cape Escape community is wonderful and felt super welcoming. We loved the local Trading Post for groceries (amazing selection for its size), t shirts and yummy cookies. Obviously, walking the beach, bird watching, and swimming were enjoyed by our family. Coming out of a Vermont winter, 70 degree water didn’t feel too bad! I found having the two pools and tennis courts at Barrier Dunes a bonus as well. Though we really never felt a need to leave the Cape, exploring fun shops in Port St. Joe and Apalachicola one cloudy, rainy day was a great diversion. I love to cook, so getting your recommendation of a the local seafood market meant we didn’t go out to dinner at all!
on and off the beach. Our only regret was that we only stayed 3 nights.
The Allens (April 2016) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
My wife and I, along with our Lab mix Shanti, just had the best beach trip ever. We loved the pet-friendly, what a treat! Water’s Edge was perfect, so close to the beach. Meeting so many nice friendly people staying there and around there was a real surprise treat, and Wendy is a very gracious host. This truly is Cape Escape as this place allows one to totally disconnect and encourages that. Don’t miss Indian Pass Raw Bar for delicious oysters and shrimp right off the boat as well as more friendly people. And the beach is the best, as the water is great at this location along with the sugar white, fine sand. The Cape is a delight and this makes it so enjoyable. We are already making plans for our return.” – Farra Allen, Marion Bodner, and Shanti.
Ruth Green (April 2016) Barrier Dunes 7 – Tropical Breeze
We have recently returned from a wonderful few days at beautiful Cape San Blas. We were in Barrier Dunes 7 Tropical Breeze which was lovely and quite comfortable. It was beautifully appointed and stocked with everything you might need for a great trip from pet towels to beach chairs.
Barrier Dunes is beautifully landscaped, quiet and pet stations were readily available. We enjoyed the beach and watching the breathtaking sunsets directly in front of our condo and seeing dazzling stars at night. This is definitely a redo trip!
I cannot say enough good about the management. The communication with Wendy was always prompt and filled with suggestions and any information we needed. Many thanks to her! They even found a necklace my daughter had forgotten and it’s in the mail to us. Awesome! This is certainly a trip to repeat and we hope to return soon.
Jeanne DiCello – Repeat Guests (April 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
Wendy, just wanted to tell you that we had a lovely time at Barrier Dunes this week. We love the furnishings of your townhome & being by the pond watching the young families fish and feed the turtles.
Shannon Mackey – Repeat guests (March 2016) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
Thanks, Wendy! We had a great time. It was so relaxing & Rocky Dog had a blast running around like crazy in the sand and trying to eat the waves. We’re already trying to figure out if our finances will allow for us to return next spring break.
Paula Wang (March 2016) – Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Hi Wendy – We just loved our stay at Barrier Dunes! The unit we rented was awesome – had absolutely everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped & the bed & living room couches were so comfy. Sunsets from our decks were beautiful! We walked on the beach every day – loved that it wasn’t crowded & that it was dog-friendly. In fact, we were often the only ones on the beach. The complex is extremely well managed – very clean, nicely landscaped, & quiet. I really appreciated all the doggie stations with bags & trash cans. Every day we ate fresh seafood from either Port St Joe or Apalachicola – the oysters and shrimp were amazing!! Definitely coming back next year, but for a longer period of time. One week was not enough!! Just loved this place – thanks – from a very happy renter.
Dawn Austin (December 2015) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
Hi Wendy. I had a fantastic time. I tried to talk Paul into a longer stay but he couldn’t get off work. The place has a fantastic view. Location to the beach is great and my doggies loved it! Walking along the shore and collecting seashells was very relaxing and shells were plentiful. A quite yet treasure of a beach to say the least. Even though the weather was iffy I got some great photos. I will definitely bring my kids down when time permits. That place had plenty of space for a family. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay! Thanks so much.
The Adams Family (November 2015) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
We had been wanting to plan a trip to take our 7 year old dog Riley to the beach over Thanksgiving, & Barrier Dunes was perfect for what we were looking for. Wendy was great at answering our questions & providing recommendations. Riley loved the beach & the unit conveniently had pet towels & an outdoor hose to rinse her off after our walks on the beach. The complex also had pet stations throughout which was very helpful.
There are so many activities on the Cape to enjoy. We made smores by our beach bonfires at night, went kayaking, and saw some amazing dunes in the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. We loved that our unit provided a lot that you would normally have to buy such as dish detergent & hand soap. Everyone at Barrier Dunes was very friendly & we will definitely be coming back & recommend to others : )
The Gilbert Family (November 2015) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
The condo was lovely. Had everything we needed.
Tom Green (November 2015) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
Just wanted to let you know how happy we were with the rental. It was the dogs first time at the beach and they loved it. The beach is beautiful, the people were friendly and the rental was great – much larger than I expected. Multiple balconies, a fully stocked kitchen, laundry room, towels, crib, etc made it feel like you were at home. There were even beach toys for the toddler. Really great vacation & we’ll be back for sure.
Susan and Barbara Parks (November 2015) Barrier Dunes 4 – SeaScape
SeaScape is a first-class accommodation & Wendy did everything she could to make the stay flawless. The unit is beautiful & very well maintained. Everything needed for a fine beach holiday was provided; all you have to do is head to the beach and enjoy your stay.
We loved having high chairs & table on the deck to take advantage of the spectacular vista with our morning coffee. Of the many perks of staying in Barrier Dunes were the friendly neighbors, well-behaved dogs, & one of the cleanest beaches we’ve found on the Gulf. All in all, it was a wonderfully relaxing visit.
Krista & Andy Robards (October 2015) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
We had such a great time at your condo. My black Scottie girls Midge & Mandy were just perfect on their 1st beach vacation! It was so amazing how they settled right in & loved everything as much as we did. The weather was perfect for the dogs being cooler in the mornings & evenings for their outings. The porch with the gate worked as a safe place to roll & dry after their daily baths.
One evening we went horseback riding for our 28th year anniversary at sunset. The weather was changing so we didn’t get a sunset we were looking for, but the rainbow was outstanding in the distance!
We grilled outside on the porch for our dinners & enjoyed seeing others with & without their pets go by. Everyone was friendly & wanted to pet my girls. The Dockside Grill even had a area the dogs could sit with you in town.
Crystal Smith (September 2015) Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine
Good morning, sorry I am just getting back to you about our trip. We absolutely loved it. The house was great & very well stocked. The beach was amazing. This was the 1st time we have taken our dog on vacation & she loved the beach as much as we did. We will definitely be back & would love to stay in your house again. Thank you for everything you did to make this a great place to stay.
The Friedensohn Family (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang
We had such a wonderful time. The location was perfect just steps from the beach. All the rooms were nicely decorated, the mattress, pillows & linens were very comfy! The size of the condo was huge and we had plenty of room for our family. I really appreciate that you were able to let us borrow the pack n plays and high chair. We will definitely be back!
The Campbells (September 2015) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
My husband and I just returned from five nights at Turtle Crawl for the long Labor Day weekend with our dog, another couple & their three-month-old baby. That may sound like a lot of people in one unit, but we had plenty of room to spread out & enjoy our vacation. The weather was wonderful & we were able to take advantage of the blue green water & pristine sands of the Cape.
Wendy Northington & Family (September 2015) Barrier Dunes 188 – Turtle Tracks
Happy Labor Day! We have returned home from Cape San Blas & are all extremely sad our mini vacation is over. We LOVED it! The condo was great & had all the amenities we needed. Thank you so much for everything! We will definitely be back again soon. I’ve already recommended my Mom & sister call you for their next beach trip! I couldn’t say enough great things about the location & the complex.
The Cipkute Family (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl
I chose Cape San Blas for my family vacation this summer & it was fantastic! We stayed in Turtle Crawl & felt like home. We did not have to worry about extra towels or spices or beach toys for the children, we found it all along with clean and cozy place to stay. The beach and Cape San Blas is a quiet, relaxing & magical place. We are looking forward to go back again. Thanks
Buffy Mason (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 12 – Pelican View
We’ve been to The Cape many times but this is our first time staying in Barrier Dunes. Pelican View was in excellent condition and by far, the best “stocked” home we’ve ever stayed in. Usually, we have to buy the basics–salt, pepper, olive oil, cooking spray, foil, trash & sandwich bags, etc etc. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find it all there. Unlike many others places we’ve stayed in at The Cape, the condo was also exceptionally clean–another nice surprise. The AC worked BEAUTIFULLY & the extra (minisplit) unit in the 3rd Floor Master was much appreciated. This unit is right on and looks straight at the water–the VERY BEST views of The Gulf. Also, our deck was VERY private. Captains chairs were a nice touch for dolphin and turtle watching.. Nicely decorated & very well taken care of. The community pool was also a huge hit with our kids…Big kudos to the owners as well as the Mgmt Company. We will definitely be back.
Shari Gayda & Friends (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
We had a WONDERFUL time!!! The home was even better than we had hoped…spacious, clean & beautiful!!! The weekend was truly perfect! To be perfectly honest with you, the only time we ever left the house/beach once we arrived was for one quick trip to The Trading Post to get more ice and OJ!
I have rented many places over the years and have never been to a place that was better stocked or provided more information about the house itself or the surrounding areas. It is clear that you take pride in the homes you manage and of the Cape San Blas area itself.
I will likely be contacting you sometime this week or next to book a place for my family for next summer…I’m hoping for an annual trip to the Cape with family and/or friends (or all by myself if need be…LOL) and would be delighted if every trip was at one of your Barrier Dune options in Paradise.
The beautiful beach home, white sand, crystal clear sparkling (like diamonds) water, and most importantly the laughter between good friends on this magical weekend will be memories we all treasure for a lifetime!
I’ve copied my friends on this email so that they can email you with their comments as well if they so desire.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the beauty of the Cape with us!! I will be in touch soon!
Wendy Vizant and family (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 12 – Pelican View
Thank you for your email. We had a wonderful time! The views from the house were spectacular, especially the sunset! We really enjoyed the fire on the beach & Dolly, our dog, enjoyed her first trip to the beach. Everything was very convenient & we look forward to visiting again. My family & I absolutely love that part of Florida. It’s a nice change from the east coast, where we live. No crowds and clear water.
Thanks for everything!
The Ferchman Family (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
We had a wonderful time at Barrier Dunes. The apartment was fantastic, the beach was beautiful and my kids practically lived in the pool the entire time. When my husband could drag them out of the pool they had a blast fishing (see attached photos). The loft was a hit and I loved having an area where the kids could spread out their toys and I didn’t have to trip over them in the morning before coffee. Both my husband and I remarked that the apartment, beach and pool were even better than the website conveys. We’ve already decided to make summer trips to the Cape a family tradition so expect to hear from me next year!
Carol Sheehy (August 2015) Barrier Dunes 7 – Tropical Breeze
There it was. Right in front of me…….. first thing in the morning. The ocean, the beach, with my dogs right beside me. What could be better. A few steps and there we were in the most amazing surf and sand. You couldn’t ask for a better picture.
My time in Cape San Blas at Barrier Dunes gave me what I’ve dreamed of…a perfect beach vacation and Tropical Paradise made it even better. The view from the unit was incredible….days first light through sunset. I could write a book about the sunsets. Can’t wait till next year. One more thing, the customer service was amazing.
Sherri Daniels (July 2015) Barrier Dunes 177 – Waters Edge
We had a wonderful time. The condo was clean when we arrived and we had plenty of room. The kitchen had the nicest dinnerware & pots & pans to cook with than any condo we had rented before. My husband loved the short walk to the beach. We mostly just enjoyed the beach & the water and collecting shells. It would be nice if there was someone who rented kayaks on the beach. Our condo last year had one and both are son and daughter enjoyed taking it out.
Our son & daughter went horseback riding on the beach this year & loved it. We used Two Bit Stables & they were very nice. Very good with everyone including some very young children who rode with them. Reservations are best made in advance before you get to the cape because it fills up very quickly & if you wait there may not be any openings. We also walked around the shops in Port St Joe.
Our favorite restaurant is Sunset Grille. We also enjoyed Provisions, Joe Mama’s pizza (excellent), Up the Creek, & Indian Pass Raw bar. The last 3 were new to us this year but we would definitely go back. They all get a thumbs up.
We had a nice relaxing week and looking forward to next year.
Thank you for being so easy to work with.
Diane Dever (July 2015) Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II
My husband and I would like to thank you for the lovely accommodations at the Cape Escape II. We had a wonderful time there on the Cape, snorkeling for scallops, enjoying the beach and exploring the area. We thought that the condo was very nicely maintained & managed.
Janet Wimsatt (July 2015) Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise
This was our second time staying at Barrier Dunes, and just like the first time, everything was perfect! The house was everything we were expecting, was very clean and ready for us on our arrival. We love that our dog, Lucy, is very welcome there and even has her own towels to dry off her wet sandy paws! The grounds around Barrier Dunes is very manicured and always looks so beautiful. Plus they have several pet stations scattered around, so you are never too far from the very important “pooper scooper”! Everyone (human or canine) we encountered on the beach was always so friendly. It didn’t matter the age…the very young to the old…were such a joy to be around and to get acquainted with. Lucy loved splashing around in the waves and making new friends. Definitely a very friendly beach, for us and our dog! It is such a relaxing place to stay, and we will definitely be going back there in the future!
Mary Mehegan & Family (July 2015) Barrier Dunes 15 – Gulf Breeze
We really enjoyed our time at the Cape. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather. We loved the stocked kitchen and used your crockpot several times. Made dinner in the morning, then spent the day at the beach. Your place was very clean and comfortable. Used your washer and dryer which worked well and nice they supplied the detergent.
V. Wilson (June/July2015) Stayed in Barrier Dunes 52 – Sea Breeze
We loved the place and Barrier Dunes & had a wonderful time. My husband & I stayed there with another couple for our babymoon! The neighborhood was cozy & the condo was decorated so nice & felt like home. We spent most of our time relaxing on the beach & at night ate at some of our favorite restaurants. Tamara’s in Apalachicola is always delicious. Wendy made the whole rental process easy & quick. We would love to stay here again!
Laura Wise (June 2015) Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I
Our new favorite beach! Exactly what we have been looking for! The beaches are beautiful & uncrowded, very dog friendly! The accommodates were great. Can’t wait to come back next year for much longer!
Kathryn Norris & Family (June 2015)
Pelican View was fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed our week there. The only bad thing was we had to come back to the “real” world & couldn’t stay longer. The gulf front decks were beautiful, but HOT! Too hot to sit out during the day, but the evening more than made up for it.
As the Cape is unspoiled by high levels of commercialism, the stars are brilliant and plentiful. The evening breezes were spectacular.
The rental itself had plenty of room for my husband, mother, father, daughter, son, nephew and me. It was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The beach closet had plenty of chairs, toys, cooler and more. The walk to the beach was very short and easy.
We only ate out once(Dockside’s in Port St. Joe) and used the kitchen for the rest of our means. It was well stocked a& and made mealtime wonderful. We saw dolphin, deer, turtle tracks and turtle nests and the most amazing bioluminescent display in the surf at night. Fires on the beach were also special. My daugher very easily made friends on the beach and at the pool. Also— when you are told cell service is spotty—that’s no joke!! Enjoy that and unplug!
This was our 1st stay at the Cape so I cannot speak of any of the other rentals, but if Wendy’s other rentals are as inviting—you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Her customer service & attention to detail is on point and commendable. It was a pleasure working with her and I can’t wait to return to the Cape!
David Bradshaw (June 2015)
Once we walked into that wonderful townhome, all of our stress went away!. The townhome was incredible! The beach was incredibly beautiful & we fell in love with the fact that there were not many commercial businesses around & we had now cell phone signal. Just us & the beach no distracting noises either electronically or from outside businesses. We loved it! We felt like we were on an island!
While we were there we ate at some great quality seafood establishments. We also went horseback riding on the beach which was absolutely 1 of the best things we have ever done. We also tried kayaking. We really liked it as well. Thank you for everything & I am certain we will be returning sometime next year!
The Coleman Family (June 2015)
We had a wonderful stay at Barrier Dunes! The beach was amazing! My family & I loved the fact that it was not crowded & very family oriented. We didn’t have to worry about loud & annoying music or obnoxious people. We were able to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the waves during the day and a bonfire with the waves at night! Very dog friendly.
Finding the beach at the condo was a very pleasant surprise & made our short walk to the beach so much easier.
Thanks again for your willingness to be so specific and for your willingness to let me family arrive a little early. We do plan to visit again in the near future!
The Belote Family (June 2015)
We are halfway home and I wanted to drop and email and say THANK YOU for everything!
It was tough leaving Paradise this morning but time to get back to reality.
Everyone had a fantastic time and I’ll definitely be in contact soon in order to get a jump on next year’s vacation at Barrier Dunes!
The Baker Family (June 2015)
Thank you again Wendy for making our vacation as comfortable and wonderful as it was. Sanibel has always been our favorite place to go and now we have found a beautiful beach we truly fell in love with and it was all you described it to be. We will definitely be back. We’ll be back home tomorrow relaxed and ready to get back to routine, but I’l already missing the beach.
The Davis Family (June 2015)
We had a wonderful time. My grandkids loved the loft. They had their own play area. Everything was perfect. Loved the layout of the condo.
I loved the privacy of the bedrooms. I think it is the perfect layout for the 2 families. It was my daugher and son-in-law and 2 grandchildren We will definitely be back next year. I loved the beach & it was a great trip. The place was perfect.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful home.
Rita Petty (May 2015)
We enjoyed our stay at Barrier Dunes 52. The kitchen is very well equipped for most everything. The bed was almost as good as at home! The condo is very convenient to the beach and the beach was absolutely beautiful. Our trip there was everything I expected and more! We both came back very rested and ready to charge. Thank you for everything.
The Burnette Family (May 2015)
We had such a great time at Cape San Blas. This was our 1st trip to Cape San Blas and we loved it. Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II was beautiful and so clean. It was nice to find a place at the beach that will allow dogs & big dogs too. We usually stay in Destin but it’s hard to find pet friendly places & especially for large dogs. We loved relaxing at the beach watching the dogs play. It was their 1st trip to the beach & they loved it. We ate at Coneheads 3 times and loved their food! Thanks again for letting us use your condo, it was beautiful.
Nancy Webber (May 2015)
Thank you so much Wendy! We enjoyed our stay so much! We were very impressed with the grounds, how clean and pretty everything was. We liked our condo and would love to come back! We didn’t do anything except hang on the beach all day, we bought fresh seafood and cooked at the condo (Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I). We came to relax and do nothing! Exactly what we wanted.
Thanks so much for everything and I hope we can get there again this year!
The Jones Family (May 2015)
We had a wonderful time at Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise. The house was lovely, clean & just about anything you needed to enjoy your time at the beach was provided! The view was awesome, being able to have the patio doors open in the evening, with the breeze & the sound of the ocean waves was just so relaxing. We loved being able to walk out the code & RIGHT onto the sand with the dogs. It’s a lovely, peaceful, relaxing place to stay!
You were wonderful to work with and I would recommend you without hesitation.
Janet Hermans & Family (May 2015)
I just loved the decorating at the condo (Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I). We all agreed that it looked so natural and cheerful. We especially like the casual blue denim fabric on the couches and the beaches bedspreads. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed and the grill started right up so we felt at home pretty quickly. Lucy, our lab, loved the ocean and was exhausted, so was easy to manage in the new environment.
We rented bikes from Scallop Cove and enjoyed biking in the state park and on the bike path towards Port St. Joe. My husband got hooded on the donut stand (this is at the Trading Post).
Leslie is an artist and May 1 – 10 there was a county wide Plein Air art event going on, so we really enjoyed going to the exhibits and meeting artist outdoors painting in Apalachicola and seeing the web room at WindMark beach. We also enjoyed the year-round art galleries in Apalachicola, especially the Bowery. Leslie liked Tamara’s Cafe in Apalach so we ate there twice.
The vacation was really about the beach, which was lovely. Evan loved playing Frisbee on the sandbar, 50 feet out. We saw dolphins, a manta ray and pelican. All Lucy, our lab cared about was fetching balls out of the ocean. She was obsessed. The whole dog culture at Barrier Dunes was fun.
Beautiful vacation. Lovely beach, pools and tennis courts. Lovely grounds and friendly people!
James Miller (May 2015)
Barrier Dunes and your condo were awesome! Walking on Sunshine was perfectly appointed & what a view. The TV was GREAT! I got to watch GA beat Louisville in highdef, and heard the surf at the same time! We had a great time!
Sabrina Karels – Repeat Guest (May 2015)
I tell everyone how much I love it there. I can’t describe it. I just love the seclusion & the quiet & banishing the city for a bit. I will keep going back for sure when I can manage the time away. I truly love going out there & I’m always sad to leave. Thanks so much for always giving such helpful and thoughtful information & always helping out with questions. You are awesome! Can’t say enough good things.
Antonia Mantonakis & family (March 2015)
We had a great stay! I just posted a comment on your Facebook page. It really exceeded our expectations & it was such a beautiful beach. Jasper, our dog, had the time of his life, & our kids had so much fun — memories for life!
Diane Reock (December 2014/January 2015)
We had a nice time at Turtle Crawl (Barrier Dunes 191) & were so impressed by your villa! You are a wonderful host & obviously thought of every detail–definitely picked up a few good tips for our properties in SC!!
The master bedroom was so well appointed & the bed was super comfortable. Your beach closet held another treasure trove of amenities which we so appreciated.
Having such a well equipped kitchen was another huge plus for us – we enjoyed creating meals with the abundance of local seafood. We were also struck by the helpfulness and friendliness of your neighbors–very nice community.
Again, many thanks for making your lovely home – & it really Turtle Crawl really does feel like a home!
Sue Martin (December 2014)
We had the absolute best time ever at the Cape. Mercedes, our English Shepherd, had so much fun! All of the people at the beach were awesome. Mercedes played with most of the dogs who were used to playing with other dogs. By the time we left, everyone knew her name as she loves all people & animals.
The condo (Barrier Dunes 1 – Walking on Sunshine) was the best I have ever stayed in. I have stayed in many over the years & was so impressed. The accommodations were more than I expected or ever had before. I had the best time bragging on how wonderful our condo was. The fact that everyday things you have at home are there at the condo was fantastic. I commend you on this as it really felt like our home for a week. It was so comfortable staying there.
This is now our favorite vacation place & we are already talking about our next trip there & hope to be able to stay in your condo when we do.
Thanks so much for making our Christmas vacation so wonderful! Happy New Year!
Jim Shivers (November 2014)
We had a great trip. The unit was very nice, particularly how well decorated it was. The weather was a bit cool and breezy, but not enough to keep us from long walks on the beach, which was even prettier than I remembered from our last visit.
Ate in mostly, but did have a quick beer at the Indian Pass Raw Bar and a great lunch at the Owl, which is our favorite in the area. The Raw Bar isn’t quite as much fun since Big Jim cleaned it up and Gator isn’t smoking while he cooks, but it’s still a classic. All in all a very nice trip at a very nice rental (Barrier Dunes 191 – Turtle Crawl).
Elaine Hoffman (November 2014)
We had a great time at Barrier Dunes. The condo (Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang) was immaculate and very pleasant to stay. We even swam Saturday in the heated pool. Delightful.
You and Soni are fantastic!! Great job and thanks for everything.
Ryan & Bethany Liedel (November 2014)
This was our 1 year wedding anniversary trip. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place and people. It was incredibly stress free & relaxing. We had the beach almost entirely to ourselves. This condo (Barrier Dunes 67 – Cape Escape I) had everything we could have ever needed. It was so quiet which was perfect for us.
It was nice to find a place so nice and accepting our dogs with no breed restrictions.
We weren’t here an hour before we discussed a return trip and sent pics to family as a suggested destination. I like this place—can’t wait to come back. Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating trip!
Lynne Ray (November 2014)
We had a fabulous time! Thank you for allowing our big dog there, may places wouldn’t. The house Barrier Dunes 91 – Cape Escape II) is beautiful.
Ginger Kindred (November 2014)
Our stay was incredible. A really different experience with fires on the beach AND having the dogs. This was a great family time. Soni, thanks for making sure everything was in the condo for cooking a Thanksgiving dinner. It was PERFECT. Wendy, Thanks for coordinating all of this. We hope to come back again. You were the best and hope you had great Thanksgiving too!
Michael & Andrea Klauss (October 2014)
What a fantastic trip we had!
Friday as a big beach day, dolphins, sting rays, fishing, sunsets and campfires on the beach.
Saturday was a trip to St. George Island to visited relatives & see the sites.
Carmen, our guide took us out to tour the Apalachicola River, Dead Lakes and the Apalachee River. We hit the swamp, saw turtles, tupelo trees, lily pads, birds & a very big alligator. House boats, river camps and all sorts of other new things. My son even claimed he saw a manatee. Beautiful weather for a beautiful place.
After the tour we headed back to Cape San Blas. That afternoon, more excitement blew in from offshore. In a flash, several small fishing boats swooped in. Fishermen hurled themselves into the water with a big net and scooped up a big school of mullet right in front of our condo! One of the fishermen gave us 3 mullet from their haul.
That night we filleted & grilled those large mullet and 13 more whiting, watched another stunning sunset and wished for more time by the side of our campfire under the stars.
Just thought you should know what a special place Cape San Blas is. The house was perfect for our stay and had everything we needed! We will certainly be back. It was a 13 hour drive and worth every minute!
The Nunes Family (October 2014)
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful beach vacation house with us. I loved seeing so many stars each night. This has been one of my all-time favorite vacations thanks to the wonderful people in the area who celebrate life with dogs as we do.
Wendy was fantastic answering my 100+ questions before we booked & saw how how fabulous it was for myself.
The decor in Barrier Dunes 4 (SeaScape) was exactly what I would want in a vacation home and the place was perfect being right on the beach with sunlight all day.
Our favorite little trip was to see the “Old World Florida’ Tour of Apalachicola. I had so much joy each day watching the different dogs on the beach–that was my heaven! That and the water, weather and the white sand. Thank you again.
Ilan Kerman (October 2014)
Our trip was great. The weather was perfect and it was very relaxing. We look forward to coming back.
John and Tessa Alvey (October 2014)
Nice unit!! We really enjoyed the townhouse at Barrier Dunes 177 It was close to the beach and the pool which we used many times. We will plan to be back at Cape San Blas & Barrier Dunes again & again. We will keep your contact information.
Nathan and Andrea Adams (Sept/Oct 2014)
We loved our stay! It was very relaxing!! It was peaceful & lovely weather. Thank you for helping us out!
Rebecca Burgess (September 2014- Multiple Repeats)
We fished our hearts out, witnessed every sunset from the beach, drove to Apalach for dinner, so I would say another great trip!
The Zentz Family (August 2014)
Julie, Dudley and I had an amazing time at the Cape. It was indeed the perfect getaway and was even more special because we were able to bring “the Big Man” along with us. Turtle Tracks (Barrier Dunes 188) was ideal for us and as you described….left us wanting nothing!
We met several new friends on the beach, all of whom spoke very highly of you & your properties and we couldn’t have been more content. I am attaching some pictures of Dudley who enjoyed the waves to the point that each evening we had to DRAG him out of the water!
Jerrica Walden & Family (August 2014)
Thank you so much! We had a great time! It was very comfortable. The wedding was very sweet. It was 90 minutes away, but still worth it to stay at the Cape. The beach was absolutely amazing! We are used to the east cast/St. Augustine side, so this coast was very unique to us. We ate at “Up the Creek” in Apalachicola—it was AMAZING!!
Thank you for a wonderful rental, completely stocked for a memory filled family vacation.
Patty Hawkins & Family (July/August 2014)
I really enjoyed your house. It was very relaxing there and it had everything we needed. My family enjoyed being able to got to he beach, the pools or to the house to chill out. The dogs really enjoyed the beach.
Your guest information book at the home was a great resource on what to see and do there.
I loved the sunsets, the color of the water and the dunes! Sitting on the balcony enjoying the breeze was so refreshing. I’m very glad we chose your house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Jamie Noll (July 2014)
Thank Wendy! We did have a wonderful time and will definitely be calling you to reserve something next year.
Stephanie Glickauf (June/July 2014)
We had a great time at Turtle Tracks (Barrier Dunes 188). The condo had everything we needed and then some. The beach was beautiful and the kids loved the pool too.
Karen and Mike McMannon (May 2014)
We had the most perfect spot in the world. It was such a lovely holiday and remains a happy memory. The home was well stocked. If we have the chance we would choose the same rental again. We hope for that chance!
Christy Singleton (May 2014)
What a majestic beach at Cape San Blas and the amazing giant dunes etc! We were so captivated and really loved visiting your home. Both my husband’s family and mine have contemplated a Florida vacation so we will be recommending your home etc when we tell them about our adventures.
Kathryn Vetrano (April 2014)
I’m just gonna go ahead and tell you….This condo is by far the best we have ever stayed in ! Love it! We were very surprised at ALL the great extras here. Never stayed at a place so well stocked.
Thank you so much for setting us up in this wonderful place. We will definitely be back and want to stay in this unit or at least a Cape Escape unit. You have really gone the extra mile.
Thanks for the perfect weekend.
Mary and Ken Dayton (March/April 2014)
Our 3 weeks at Barrier Dunes #67 were delightful! The condo was wonderfully comfy and so well stocked! We appreciated the thought that went into having everything one needs…from laundry soap to beach chairs etc…We loved walking the well kept and ‘blooming’ grounds of Barrier Dunes…and of course the gorgeous beach…only steps from the condo!!The Beach…shells to collect and watching the children and dogs and dolphins frolicking in the water…it was not difficult to RELAX!! We enjoyed the variety of local restaurants and of course grilling the fresh catch from one of the near-by fish/shrimp stores. Apalachicola offered a very interesting ‘Estuary Tour’ and shopping and eating were great too!! And the sunsets were lovely…a perfect ending to every day!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful beach home….
PS We were ‘treated’ to a beautiful sunrise the morning we drove away from Barrier Dunes…it took our breath away!
Oleg Poliakov (April 2014)
Our vacation time was AWESOME! We went for boating, fishing, horseback riding, biking, of course swimming!
We were impressed with everything we’ve seen and glad that we’ve made that decision. We had such a great opportunity to visit one more beautiful place on this planet! PARADISE!Even our dog seemed to be happy.J
We loved non-crowded beaches and very nice community. The condo felt like home.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! We are planning to come back some time
Jason Green (March 2014)
Thanks again so much for helping us out with Turtle Tracks. It was awesome as all your rentals always are !
Connie Strickland (Mar/April 2014)
We had a great time and BD 191 was very comfortable and we all had a relaxing mini-vacation. We hope to come back in the future with more of our family.
Thank you for providing such a wonderful place!
Wendy we had another great vacation at Seascape. Each year when we return, it seems for 5 weeks like a second home for us. This year new deck furniture was a nice surprise. As you can see by the picture, the boys like to relax on the deck. >
The Gallo’s (Jan – March 2014)
Hubby and I spent January, February & part of March 2014 at Wendy’s Turtle Crawl (Barrier Dunes 191) with our 2 dogs & could not have been more pleased. The unit is decorated beautifully & comfortably. The beds were just as comfy as our own at home, the kitchen has everything and more that you will need, the living furniture was great to lounge on, nice clean carpeting throughout the house and 3 balconies was a real plus too! Wendy’s attention to detail in your rentals & her willingness to provide quick response on any request makes her rentals a real “cut above” others. The Barrier Dunes complex is a great place for snowbirds and their dogs and is kept up very well. Easy new friendships can be made and WEndy keeps on top of upcoming events, etc. on the Barrier Dunes Snowbirds page so you know what’s going on and can join the fun.We would highly recommend and will make sure to return to Cape San Blas next winter!
The Mackey’s (March 2014)
Thanks so much for checking in with us. We have a marvelous time in Florida. The weather was gorgeous (and so warm!!), the beaches were beautiful and empty, and the accommodations in Barrier Dunes 91 were fabulous. The pictures on the website don’t do the place justice. The attention to detail that you have taken with the house is great; we found everything that we needed and more.It was the dog’s first exposure to the ocean, and he absolutely loved it. He tried to bite at the waves, splash in the water, and burrow his whole face in the sand. It was fun to just sit back and watch him.We will definitely keep the Cape Escape in mind for other get-aways that we need.
Rita Baker-Brockman (March 2019)
Thank you Wendy…. The trip was perfect. It turned out to be just me and my dog. R&R was practically prescribed by my doctor, so I appreciated the time alone. The only pictures I took involved a friend’s daughter’s school project / version of flat Stanley….I will definitely contact you again in the future… Your condo is very nice! It was also nice walking down to where my property is – I sat on that beach and tried to visualize my future retirement home.
The Suderman’s (Feb/March 2014)
This is our 7th year at Barrier Dunes, and first time in one of Wendy’s beach front condo rentals. The condo was the best ever. We were very happy and so pleased with our stay at Walking on Sunshine. We loved the renovations. It was nicely decorated and clean and exactly as described. We were especially pleased that Wendy went above and beyond to help us when we discovered our reservation with another manager fell through. Her willingness to work with us to get the condo ready for our requested dates was much appreciated. We are grateful to both the new owners and Wendy for our wonderful snowbird stay this year. We’re even on the books for next year. Thanks, Wendy!
The Roushornes (February 2014)
We had a very relaxing time and were blessed with good weather during our stay. Buddy loves to sunbathe and the balcony off the living area provided him the perfect perch! The accommodations were well appointed and perfect as a ‘dog friendly’ environment.
The Cain Family, February 2014
Thank you Wendy. I will email some photos of the poodles and Mary on the beach. Anyway, I have a neat story. The morning we were leaving we couldn’t find one of our little poodles. Rusty is 9 years old partially blind and is missing one of his front legs, making it somewhat difficult for him to get around. He must have gone out the door when we were loading. I was almost hysterical after running through Barrier Dunes yelling his name. I came upon a Canadian couple, and described Rusty to them. About 20 minutes later this nice man was knocking at our door with Rusty in his arms. He found him at the entrance. It just goes to show what a nice community Barrier Dunes is. If you could possibly find out this couple’s last name I would appreciate I. We want to send them a thank you card. Barrier Dunes will always be highly recommended by us.
The NewBerg’s, February 2014
We had a great time at Cape San Blas. The weather could not have been better. I haven’t downloaded my pictures yet (taxes to do) but rest assured the home was in great condition and we really had a good time.
Peg & Jim Hamilton (February 2014)
Thanks for your kind email. We had an uneventful trip back home, but were greeted with an icy driveway/walk and a snow-filled backyard! UGH!!We so enjoyed our stay at Barrier Dunes 7, and have already decided to come back next yr. for 4 weeks instead of two. We’ve already picked out the unit and are just waiting for you to post the prices on your website. We will keep watching and will contact you when we have finalized our plans.I’m including 2 pictures. Molly the Wonder Dog fell in love with CSB and made so many doggie friends. She had more fun than anyone!! Thanks again
Sharon Burtrum (February 2014)
It was great but after coming back I wished I would have booked for a longer time! Our weather forecast calls for ‘bitter cold with no relief in sight’.Cape Escape I – Barrier Dunes 67 was a comfortable place and Barrier Dunes has such a friendly bunch of people.
Sparky, Georgia and Ashlyn Stewart (Dec. 2013/January 2014)
We had a great time at the Cape. We hadn’t stayed at Barrier Dunes in years (since we sold) so it was great to see how well maintained the grounds were and how gorgeous the beach looks! The unit was very nice and really well equipped. I liked being on the back side of Barrier Dunes (very quite) too. We were able to have a bonfire on the beach New Years Eve and enjoy all the fireworks. It was nice to just chill out and relax after the holidays.. Our dog, Roxy loved taking beach walks as did Ashlyn and myself! Thanks for making everything so easy and when we’re ready to return to Barrier Dunes we’ll let you know.
Glen Smith (December 2013) Yes, Had a great time, thanks! Very nice place and well maintained! Yes, found the place very comfortable and relaxing.
Did some kayaking (and fishing) in Eagle Harbor on Friday….very windy! Didn’t catch any fish that day, but saw many dolphins and one dolphin came up approximately 15 yards from me! Did more fishing on Saturday in Port St. Joe and caught some spotted sea trout but no keepers, still had lots of fun!
Got some pictures attached. May send more in another email (I don’t Facebook).
Thanks again for everything and will definitely let you know when I decide to come again (probably this coming Spring)!
Susan O’Neal (December 2013)
The condo was great and Amy and I had a fantastic holiday. All the people I met were so friendly. I hope we can return in the near future for another fantastic holiday. Thank you. I hope your Christmas was merry, as well.
Michele Bertrand & Family (December 2013)
I was going to email you, just didn’t get that chance. It’s always such a big job before and after vacation. Well to sum up how our trip went, I could say this, if we didn’t have a 5 year old in school, we’d become snowbirds at your place in a heartbeat. Oh my goodness. We loved it.
The unit was great. Clean and beachy looking. Had everything we needed. Thank you for rectifying the grill, we had bought all grill food for the whole week, so we had really counted on a grill.
The rooms were spacious and we all really felt at home while there. Good thing for that outdoor hose, it’s amazing how that sand sticks to everything.
The Trading Post was a great store and we bought ourselves several little treasures from there. And a pizza on the last night. They were super nice about mailing a letter we had for us.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful. And the maintenance people and everyone there was so friendly. We took walks on the beach and around the grounds every day. I found so many cute places to take my daughters picture.
What we loved most though, was the private secluded non crowded beach. Oh my goodness. I couldn’t get over it. We were looking for a non crowded place, so my daughter would have that ‘freedom’ to play without being crammed with people. This was what drew us to Barrier Dunes the most. And boy did she have freedom. It was just plain wonderful. She loved it. We loved it. Played in the sand every single day, looked for shells, walked in the water. It way surpassed my expectations. We are already wanting to come back.
We have no complaints or problems. I do have one suggestion, the pillows in both rooms are getting quite flat, almost like sleeping with no pillow. But that’s just a suggestion, not a complaint.
We had a GPS, but we also used your directions too. My Father in Law is a snowbird in Destin and he came down one day to visit us, and he complimented your directions, saying you brought us a good route. He also said how pretty the area is, especially the last 15 minutes of the drive.
The worst part was the long drive down and back. But we really did have a wonderful time. As for pictures, oh goodness, I took about 700. Literally. No exaggeration there. I have my own personal website/blog that I post stuff for family and friends. As soon as I get some uploaded (not all 700, haha) I will send you the link to them.
Thank you so much. You have been great and communicated with me so well to prepare for our trip to the Cape, I really appreciate that.
I hope you have very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
PS – I’ll send that link to the pictures within a few days.
Joe, Debby & Katie Lowes (November 2013)
We miss our vacation already! The Cape Escape met all of our great expectations and we’ll definitely be back again. Our dog, Katie, had the best time as we did too! We met some great people from other states who loved the Barrier Dunes too!
So we hope you have a great winter next year and we’ll certainly be looking forward to returning! Thanks for all of the great amenities in Barrier Dunes #2 – Shore Thang, it was awesome!
The Greens (October 2013)
Thanks a bunch Wendy, we had a blast and will definitely be back. We have already suggested we do a family reunion there. We have already had 3 other couples ask about your property from my work and we couldn’t tell them enough good things. You all really pay attention to detail and make your guests feel right at home.
Brian Hillman (October 2013)When Brian was asked about his Fall vacation at Cape San Blas in Barrier Dunes 11 – Paradise, this was his reply:
The Happy Toes tell it all!
Nadia Berrouet, MSgt, USAF (September 2013)
My apologies for taking so long to respond, we had a great time! The house was great and everyone was pleased with the accommodations. Mom enjoyed it and hasn’t stopped talking about it. She sat in the surf every morning, while my sisters and I fished. Everyone has decided that the next time it has to be for at least two weeks. She plans on inviting her brothers and sisters in the future. It took Isis a bit to get used to the beach, but once she did, she wanted all her walks on the beach. She spent the evenings chasing ghost crabs but was unable to catch one. It was a great time for everyone!
Looking forward to the next visit to Barrier Dunes! Thanks again.
Joseph and Angela Perry (September 2013)
What a beautiful condo! We really enjoyed our trip to the cape. The beach was awesome and not crowded at all. There were several times that we would be the only ones on the beach. This is truly a hidden gem in Florida that allowed us as well as our “pup” to enjoy a wonderful week. We included a few pictures you may like viewing. Thank you so much, we hope to visit again in the near future.
Vicki Barnett (September 2013)
So sad vacation is over. We had a great adventurous time on the cape and the surrounding forgotten coast area. It is a uniquely beautiful place. I will send some photo’s soon. 188 Turtle Tracks was a very pleasant place. The extras such as chairs, fishing rod holders and even the sand buckets were things that made our beach days a little nicer. Hope to visit the area again someday and have raved to my friends about this unspoiled area.
Tommy and Suzanne Istvanki & Pups (August 2013 – Multiple Repeat Guests)
Once again you’ve proved your professional side. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barrier Dunes.
Ilona, our 7 year old, taught Ellie, our 6 month old, how to swim in the ocean.
We had a great time and the storms worked around our schedule. From a romantic dance and a fire on the beach, Suzanne and I ranked this stay the absolute best beach vacation to date. (17 years of marriage celebration.)
Thank you again so much. We are now planning winters stay for possibly February.
You’re The best
Jerry Audler (August 2013)
Barrier Dunes 91 was fabulous! I actually almost wanted a rainy day so I could just sit inside and enjoy it. The artwork and how it is decorated overall is so cool. And everything was there that we needed-down to the pair of pliers I needed to make some hot dog skewers for a campfire.
As far as St. Joe Peninsula and Barrier Dunes, I’ll never go to any other place. The scenery was awesome-gorgeous sunsets every night followed by star lit skies. Can’t say for sure which one I enjoyed most.
I definitely will come back again. Thanks for bearing with me on the credit card issue-I appreciate the fact that you went “The extra mile”.
Thank again and stay in touch.
Randy Moore (August 2013)
Our stay was wonderful. We could not have been more pleased. The condo was beautiful and well appointed and the view from the deck and living room was outstanding. The sunsets from the deck were awe inspiring. We will definitely be back. We were so impressed with the area and location that I would be very appreciative if you would let us know if you become aware of any of the beachfront units being available for sale in Barrier Dunes or that area.
Again, thank you so very much for your graciousness and hospitality.
Michelle Posey (and family), July/August 2013
It was a long drive to Cape San Blas but well worth it when we arrived. We arrived at 10 pm and could not see a THING outside! I went to bed nervous that maybe I had rented a home on a swamp …LOL..woke up at sunrise and couldn’t believe my eyes when I stepped out on the balcony! Gorgeous and breathtaking….and very relieved!
It is all you said it would be and more. We had the best time just being together on the beach each day and hanging out on the balcony. We tried crabbing but were unsuccessful. We left two brand new crab cages in the closet for someone else to experiment with their luck. My oldest son caught a fish right off the beach and it was big enough to feed two people..and delicious.
The fresh seafood available was one of our favorites and we enjoyed visiting in the Trading Post. We didn’t go boating this trip but plan to our next trip. We also plan to bring our dogs next trip!
Words simply cannot describe the beauty of this place. The home was well stocked and furnished beautifully. We hardly needed a thing to make it through the week.
Can’t believe I have to wait another year to go back! Here are some pics and some of our vow renewal ceremony done by Lacie Shepherd. Thank you for recommending her to us.
Dockside Marina is a great place to eat and the pizza at the Trading Post makes for a great quick meal when you would rather play than drive or cook!
Cheryl Corlee (July 2013)
Thank you so much for sharing your condo with us. It was wonderful and everything was just as your website described. But I must commend you for the extra effort in supplying all the little items such as cleaning supplies and toiletries. We rented a four bedroom condo and its attached apartment in Navarre Beach only to discover upon our arrival that there was not one square inch of toilet paper in any of the four bathrooms. Going back to the grocery store instead of the beach was not what we had planned. Sometimes it really is the little things that count the most.
Thank you for all your patience and help with the reservations.
Bernadette Scruggs (July 2013)
Our vacation arrangements were made simple by the condo owner’s prompt contact and excellent directions- right down to our arrival at the unit. That the condo was quite roomy, was located directly on the beach, had four balconies and included amenities like beach chairs, coolers, and other necessities (dish soap, laundry detergent, starter paper products), helped make this one of the nicest vacation spots my family has had the pleasure to enjoy.
Mary Alice Buckner (July 2013)
We had an absolute BLAST on our vacation! The condo is gorgeous & pictures do not do it justice. Everything was “just right” upon our arrival. I am sorry for not writing sooner but my company just left this morning. Thanks for having such a nice place for us to come. My friend who has been visiting since Thursday is a teacher in the Atlanta area. I have bragged about our Cape San Blas trip so much that she is wanting to come with me next time!! Once again, thank you for having such a great place.
The Burris and Hogue Families (June 2013)
We had such a great time at Cape San Blas this week. Will Henry loved his first time at the beach. Everyone at CSB was so friendly. We can’t wait to come back next year. Thanks for all your help in making this a great vacation for our families.
Hallie Lee (June 2013)
We had a great time at Cape San Blas last week. The condo was great. The beach was beautiful & we got to relax as much as one can with a 9 month old and two dogs. It was just nice to have us all together under one roof (with no cell service)! We tried many of the local restaurants & toured some of the surrounding towns. I would love to go back when Johnathan is older so we can participate in more of the fun outdoor activities.
The condo was great for us. It was great how much baby stuff was there! The dogs enjoyed the pet friendly beach and had plenty of great sunset walks.
I have attached some of my favorite pictures from our trip!
Cape San Blas and Barrier Dunes — perfect for Huskies, babies and their people!
Phillip McClellan (June 2013)
Everything was perfect! We definitely want to return now that we know more about the location and surroundings.
I’m sure you have plenty of pictures but we liked these.
(L-R: Turtle Tracks upper deck Gulf view, lower deck view and dunes crossover)
(Uncrowded beach in both directions – one minute from Turtle Tracks)
The Kelley Family (and pups), June 2013
We just loved our stay in Barrier Dunes, Unit 52. It was a short walk to the beach & pool, which was incredibly nice especially since we had our infant & two dogs.
We felt so comfortable and at home. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook with. The rooms were large & roomy and beautifully decorated.
We will definitely be back!
Frank and Karen Dintino (June 2013)
We had a great time at Barrier Dunes. One surprising thing that my wife Karen & I really liked was the lack of crowds all around the area. Wife, Kids, dogs & I had a great time.
Spent lots of time on the beach, kids loved the pool. Dogs loved digging in the sand. Went fishing a few times – very relaxing! We even spent 1/2 day at Panama City on a cloudy day because my 9 yr old wanted to ride bumper boats & play miniature golf – & ate at the famous Captain Andersons.
Thank you again for being a great host. The Green Family (May 2013 – Multiple Repeats!)
Thanks so much another amazing trip! Yes myself, my husband and both my boys and a couple we meet there were all sitting at a fire we had on the beach and all of sudden our dogs were growling and right behind us about 10 feet was the sea turtle crawling up to make its nest we watched as it attempted to lay its eggs etc saw the whole process and watched it walk back out to the ocean was the most amazing thing any of us had ever seen unbelievable. My husband was actually the one he went up and called the number for them to be aware of nest. We all got to see them dig etc and mark the nest the next morning the kids can’t stop talking about it and for teenagers that tells it all about how amazing seeing that was ! Tks again for always sharing your little piece of heaven with us, will be in touch for our next booking !! Have great week !!! Tks, Jessica

We all had a fabulous time in Cape San Blas and loved your condo!!!
We actually are considering doing it again! We loved the fact that we could have campfires on the beach (only had one though). Our dog Cooper loved the beach and the ocean was a new concept for him. We had to keep him from drinking the ocean since you obviously know it doesn’t mix well with their bowel functionality! Don’t worry, this didn’t happen inside the condo. Phew! I would love to bring my parents there next time. We really like the location of your condo too! What a nice community this was, ranging in ages from young families to seniors! LOVE IT!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely escape with our family! We had a wonderful and relaxing time. What a beautiful place! I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed the trip and how much we appreciate the care that was put into making us comfortable. I will also send pictures of the trip soon.

Back at home and settled in at last. Just wanted to get back to you about our time on the Cape. We still spent tons of time on the beach with the dogs, flying kites, playing in the sand, taking walks, etc.
We loved Cape Escape II (91). It was just lovely. The decor/colors were just to our taste and the floors were lovely. You had us so well stocked with supplies that we wanted for nothing the whole week.
I am so happy we choose Unit 91. The kids had a blast feeding the fish and fishing off the deck. They never really caught much, but it was still fun. It was also peaceful. The dogs really enjoyed the deck & spent so much time out there just watching all the other dogs and people walk by. I have some cute pictures of everything. Kids also loved to roller blade around Barrier Dunes. My husband & I enjoyed playing tennis.
We kept busy all week. Here is a recap of what we did & where we ate:
Arrival date Saturday: Walk on beach and dinner at Sunset Coast Grille. Good service and nice meal with great view.
Sunday: Nice beach day. Dinner at Triple Tails. Hubby loved the Oysters. My scallops were just Ok, but chocolate cheesecake for dessert was fabulous.
Monday. Spent the day in Apalachicola. Lots of fun. Loved the little shops. Took the dogs and they had their first restaurant experience at Up the Creek Raw Bar on the water. What fun and lunch was great. Loved the bisque. It felt a bit warmer there too.
Tuesday: Indian Pass Raw Bar for lunch. Really busy. Very long wait, but crab legs and oysters and burgers were terrific. What an experience. Hungry Howie’s for dinner (not the best ).
Wednesday: Off to Panama City Beach for Gulf World Marine Park. It’s small and certainly not Sea World, but my kids enjoyed it. Good for a half day. Saw two shows and the exhibits and paid extra for my girls to do a hands-on dolphin experience which was $45 each for 15-20 minutes, but they loved getting to touch and command the dolphin.
Thursday: Rented bikes in the morning at Scallop Cove and then to the beach for the rest of the day. Dinner at Joe Mamma’s which we loved. Amazing Clam Chowder (and I come from the East Coast so I know New England Clam Chowder). Pizzas also wonderful. My favorite meal of the week.
Friday: Left at 5 a.m. and sorry to say goodbye.
Quotes from my 9 year old. “It was super fun!”
Quote from my 12-year-old: “Amazingly awesome!”
Quote from my husband: “I thought it was great.”
Quote from me: “A great place to reconnect with the family. Loved it! Our family is always on the go, and even on vacations we tend to over schedule by running from one attraction to another. Cape Escape was the perfect place to be still and enjoy the natural beauty and time together. We all came home relaxed. Being able to bring our dogs made it even better. I loved how dog friendly the area was, from the beaches to te restaurants.
Thanks again for everything. Happy Easter!

EVERYTHING was lovely!! We were VERY comfortable. My husband’s wish was that we would go there & do nothing (except eat seafood). No touristy stuff. In all our travels he knows I like to see everything. So I agreed & we lounged around – worked on the computer, read books, fed the turtles, walked around the resort & to Coneheads. Oh, those donuts at the Trading Post were wonderful!
The beach walks were very nice. Gretchen would lay in the surf while the wave was going out but get up when the wave came in. She never really went swimming but enjoyed laying beside us while we sat in the chairs and read. I was so impressed with her good behavior. We ate at Triple Tails every night. Their seafood was good & we tried everything on the menu – even took Gretchen three nights. We just didn’t feel like venturing further & making more decisions about where to eat.
We have talked to both our boys and their families about returning with us, perhaps next spring break, and getting one of the Barrier Dunes rentals right on the beach. We thought Barrier Dunes was a great location & so family friendly. I want to bring bikes and a portable awning & have a fire on the beach next time.
Thanks for everything! You have been most helpful in many ways.

I just wanted to send a quick note to thank-you for all the help. We had a great time. Everything was great. No issues or problems. Beautiful white sand beaches for walking, playing, plenty of sun, a sunset campfire on the beach, golf, shopping…..it doesn’t get any better. Thanks so much for having us. We loved it.

Wendy, we had a great time at the Cape really enjoyed your condo and had a wonderful time at the beach. It was a little cool first part of the week but then warmed up nicely for the rest looks like we will be coming back.
Jessa and Trixie loved the sand. We ate at the raw oyster bar twice we liked it so much.
Great Sand and Happy Toes in the sand!
We even looked at some properties while we were there.

We had a great trip! The beach was fantastic and the house served all our needs. Exactly what we hoped for– Barkley rates the rental unit a 10 out of a possible 10.
