When our original vacation plans were sidetracked by Hurricane Dorian, we had to scramble to salvage a quick, end of summer trip. Fortunately for us, I came across Wendy Jackson, owner of Wendy’s Cape Escape – a rental agency offering nearly a dozen properties. Wendy was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. From the time I initially contacted her about a rental, up until her follow up email making sure we enjoyed our stay, she has been thorough, courteous, and friendly.

The condo was very clean and situated just steps from beach access. Additionally, Wendy stocked the condo with a number of necessary items – everything from paper goods to beach equipment to towels specifically labeled for your dog – all of which came in very handy. We loved being able to bring our dog to the pet-friendly condo, as well as the pet-friendly beaches. However, if for some reason you aren’t an animal lover, you would never know that dogs had previously been in the unit.

Lastly, the Cape is absolutely back open for business and welcoming your tourist dollar. The beach next to the condo was in excellent shape, and just as beautiful as it had been prior to Michael. While Mexico Beach has a long road ahead, both Port Saint Joe and Apalachicola have numerous dining options and are within a reasonable drive of the condo. During our stay, we were able to go to dinner in both towns and still make it back in plenty of time before our 2 year old daughter got cranky! If you don’t want to venture as far, the Cape has options as well. There’s no reason to have any trepidation when planning a trip to the Forgotten Coast at this point.

I’d highly recommend you contact Wendy and Wendy’s Cape Escape when you do. We will be back soon!

Very Clean & just STEPS to the beach Access! We will be back soon!

We stayed at the Water’s Edge unit in Barrier Dunes in April/May 2019. The townhome had everything we needed and was very clean. Barrier Dunes has recovered after the hurricane #capestrong. We’ve been staying at the Cape for 10 years and the beach is as beautiful as we remember it. The water was inviting and the pool was perfect for afternoon relaxing.

Make sure you stop by Weber’s Donuts for some delicious homemade donuts in the morning. The Trading Post is stocked with essentials if you don’t want to leave the Cape. We walked down the beach to find the Donna Kay fishing boat. It’s maybe 1-2 miles south of the Stumphole (rocks). There were a lot of shells to find along the way. The road is almost finished with repairs and we had no problem passing to and from. It’s dark at night, perfect for stargazing and seeing the Milky Way. Stop at Coneheads for ice cream and a meal. It’s right on the Cape and has delicious food.

St Joseph Peninsula State Park is still beautiful and is worth a day trip. It’s literally down the road from Barrier Dunes. Port St. Joe is just a 25 minute drive from Barrier Dunes. There are several shops and boutiques on Reid Street to explore. There is a Farmer’s Market the first and third Saturdays at the end of Reid Street. Piggly Wiggly has everything you need from groceries to souvenirs. We were pleasantly surprised to find Olive Garden salad dressing and the coconut water we like. Pepper’s is good Mexican style food and Provisions has good sandwiches and pasta.

We absolutely love the Cape and can’t wait to go back. We’re already planning our next trip to the Comeback Coast!

Love Cape San Blas – Waters Edge had EVERYTHING we needed and was VERY clean!

The condo far exceeded our expectations in location, space, comfort, cleanliness, amenities and more!

This was our first trip to Cape San Blas and I spent a good amount of time researching places to rent – I cannot recommend Wendy’s property enough!!   My husband and I are in our mid 30’s and brought our 2-year-old labradoodle for her 1st visit to the ocean – it was a 9 hour trip from Nashville, and as we rounded the bend to the Cape and saw the houses and water – we were immediately hooked.

The directions to the condo were easy to follow, the keypad made entrance easy, and we were surprised at how spacious it was! Here are a few highlights: – You can’t be much closer to the beach than if you were right on top of the waves. Just steps from the door and you’re at the pool or on the sand. – The beach itself is PERFECT – you’re at the northern part of the cape and each day we walked a little to the left and had the entire space to ourselves – day and night. The views, the sand, the water, the sunsets are just perfect. – I visited the pool just once in the late afternoon to read and it’s beautiful and comfortable overlooking the ocean.

We were able to find the Trading Post market for beer, wine, and a last-minute pizza for dinner one night. We also bought food there to cook, and went to Cone Heads for drinks and food several times – it’s right across the street from the condo area! – One day we went to the state park just to the left of the condo entrance and rented a canoe to roam around the crystal clear waters. Another day we drove to the tip of the cape and hiked to the abandoned shrimp boat, where we watched a fisherman bring in a shark and release it – *warning that there were CRAZY amounts of flies that I may never forget, but that sounds typical in Sept/Oct in that area – it’s where the tree stumps are and about a mile hike in. The entire trip was spent relaxing – we swam, caught 10+ crabs with the nets, explored the Cape and started planning our next trip. The deck on the condo is perfect for pre-sunset dinner – and the star-watching and sunsets on the beach are incredible! Bring plenty of sunscreen, a beach blanket or two, a beach umbrella and you’re set!

Perfection – if you’re wondering where to book, choose this!!

This was by far the most beautiful beachfront home in the area!   You literally walk out from your deck to the beach, which was so nice when you have a dog or small children who might need to go back in for a break.   The owners were so nice and helpful for anything we needed, and we will definitely be back!!!

Best dog-friendly vacation home ever! Walk off deck to beach!

We absolutely love CSB! The cottage was newly remodeled, comfortable, clean and well-stocked. The location was perfect, easy to get to the beach and pool and a very nice view at a great price. Wendy was terrific to work with too. We will return again to this cottage!

Beautiful cottage!

One of the best vacations our family has ever taken! Wendy’s place was amazing and checked all the right boxes. The house was very clean and had great amenities (stocked kitchen ware, spices, etc.) The rooms were perfect sizes and nicely updated throughout. Location was great and super close to beach!

Amazing Rental, Beach & Vacation!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cape Escape I In Barrier Dunes. The resort/neighborhood was so friendly and well taken care of. The Management made it so easy to arrange. Our place was beautifully furnished and clean. We will definitely be back!   Is is definitely a part of the amazing memories we had on the Cape.

Amazing Memories: Loved Cape Escape I & Barrier Dunes

If you love the beach, and hate crowds, dislike high rise condos, this is the place for you and your family! Very family oriented and everywhere on the Cape dogs are welcome. At Cape Escape they go out of their way to make sure you have all you need for yourself and your dogs. We absolutely recommend this place for your beach vacation.
