Karen Fuller (January 2017)
I just spent three weeks in Barrier Dunes on Cape San Blas. My husband was with me for a few days and my daughter joined me for my last week there. We stayed in Shore Thang #2 which was managed by Wendy Jackson. I can’t say enough good things about the experience from start to finish. First of all, Wendy was immensely helpful, prepared with any information needed and responded immediately to any concerns or questions. The unit itself was sparkling clean and lovely; every possible need had been anticipated and provided for.
The pet-friendly gated community was nestled on beautiful park-like grounds with ponds, fountains, and many lovely observation decks, gazebos, and walkways. The beach was pristine with beautiful white sand and the sunsets were spectacular.
Barrier Dunes is next door to a state park with access to St. Joseph Bay. It is stunningly beautiful park and a must-see. Many things to do there. We took several day excursions to Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe, and our favorite, Apalachicola. Sitting bayside at Boss Oyster with our dog, while eating fabulous local seafood was a highlight.
But upon return from our excursions we always commented that nothing we had seen was as beautiful and peaceful as Cape San Blas. It is rare to go somewhere and find that every single aspect of the experience exceeded your expectations but this was one of those rare times.

We truly loved your home. Everything was just perfect. You have appointed the entire place so that we felt right at home immediately. We cooked an entire Thanksgiving spread and found everything we needed in the kitchen to accommodate. We all decided it was our best Thanksgiving ever and have decided to make it our new tradition – Thanksgiving on the beach! What a blast to be able to sit down to Thanksgiving dinner in our bathing suits! It was the first time we have been to Cape San Blas and we truly loved everything about it. You have thought about just about anything we would need for our stay from the beach chairs to the shovel to help us build our bonfire.
We will be back next year!

We had a wonderful weekend! We all loved the house, especially its location and the easy access to the beach! Our dogs quickly learned their way around and made a beeline for the path as soon as we said “time to head to the beach!” Morning coffee on the deck, a beach fire at sunset, dolphins playing in the surf – all made for a relaxing time! This was a first visit to the Cape for all of us – we certainly understand why everyone falls in love with the serenity of this quiet community. We literally had the beach all to ourselves! I’m so glad I found The Cape Escape website when we looked for rental properties.
Cindy Campbell (October 2016)
We had a great time at your place. It was so very clean and well-equipped. I’m glad you felt that we took good care of your home because we certainly tried to. It’s very unusual to find a place that allows us to bring our three golden retrievers. No matter how much we say that they are well-behaved and that we will take good care of things, we typically get turned away. When people say they’ll allow dogs they usually mean one dog less than 10 pounds! We never want to take advantage when we find someone as generous as you, thus we try very hard to keep things nice.

Our vacations are rarely more than 4 days including travel. We were certain we would go stir crazy. We were wrong, the weather could not have been better and we were dog tired by the end of each day and still have things we wanted to do that were left undone.
We ate at local places…I think at least once every day…we rented kayaks…we shopped at many local stores and we saw amazing views. I attached a photo of sights you see all the time but we enjoyed.
We had an outstanding time and have already recommended Cape San Blas to friends and family.
We had a good time and were very comfortable in your outstanding accommodations.
I don’t think any of this is marketing material but we had a wonderful time.
I think the only surprise in our stay was how at home we felt.

The family (including the pups) so enjoyed our stay at Barrier Dunes Shore Thang! They wanted beach and relaxation and that is exactly what they did every day – relaxed on the beach and/or pool . I enjoyed the pool and seeing everyone having a good time. Steve did find some time for golfing, the shore fishing wasn’t so good but he and our son tried anyway. Steve and I drove to Apalachicola for an afternoon to locate the pier for fishing, he decided not to try it. The condo was perfect for us and well equipped for the infant and 3-year-old. Thank you!!
Sharon Huff & Family (June/July 2016)
Our time at Cape San Blas was the best beach vacation I can remember! It felt like paradise! The sunsets were breathtaking! I am looking forward to doing some oil paintings of the beautiful sunsets we captured on camera there! We enjoyed our bonfires on the beach and my seven grandchildren rode horses on the beach! Can’t wait to return! Thanks for everything!
Robin Reichman (June 2016)
Our trip was perfection for our family reunion. Wendy’s instructions were thorough and easy to navigate. She was very responsive to any questions we had. The units we rented were clean and well stocked. The beach is as beautiful as always. I would heartily recommend enjoying your vacation at Cape San Blas and using Wendy and her rental company. A+!
Bona Allen (June 2016)
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang. The unit was clean, bright, well-appointed, and very comfortable. It is only a few steps away from the beach, and the views from each of the beachfront balconies are incredible.
Judy Schmidt (April 2016)
I didn’t know what to expect. I read about Cape Escape rentals on a Blog and showed my family all the blog pictures and posts. We loved what we saw and decided to take a chance. From the very beginning talking with Wendy and emailing, we were able to get our vacation planned with no problems. Wendy has a very straight forward contract and I felt confident with our choice.
When we arrived, it was just like the blog and website. The Condo was amazing! The only thing we didn’t realize was all the stairs, but didn’t mind the extra exercise. The furniture in the living room was cozy and we enjoyed all the decorations. We appreciated having a functional kitchen. Eating out for a family of 5 can get expensive, so we bought our groceries at the Piggly Wiggly and Trading Post. The kitchen had pretty much everything you needed to cook. There was even marshmallow roasting sticks for bonfires! We enjoyed grilling on the gas grill and sitting out on the deck for dinner. The views of the Gulf were outstanding! The next level of the condo were two bedrooms. My kids enjoyed having their own rooms and bathroom. Everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. I told myself I was not going to do laundry on vacation, but that didn’t last long. It was nice that there was a full-size washer and dryer! I didn’t have to pack detergent..They already had it there! My favorite room was the top floor-the master bedroom. It was huge! My husband and I loved the King bed, every night we slept with the sliding glass door open to listen to the waves crash on the shore! Best sleep ever! We had double sinks and a separate bathroom with a tub and shower. Everything was spotless. I felt like I had lived there before, it was so comfortable! The second day we even saw Dolphins swimming right from the Balcony! It was so exciting!
Every day was spent walking the beach and collecting many sea shells. The sand was like white sugar. We weren’t as brave to go in the ocean but loved using the heated pool. We pretty much had it to ourselves when we were there. We also ventured into the State Park and walked for miles along the beach. We bumped into a few people, but it wasn’t crowded. Our trip was in April and it was mainly in the high 70’s, but we still needed a ton of sunscreen! There was always a cool breeze, which helped with the Kites we brought. The kids had a blast running on the beach with them.
We didn’t venture out to much. Scoops the local ice cream shoppe was closed for remolding, but the Trading post had a great selection of ice cream. We bought a couple of gallons and would make sundaes in the condo. The owner of the Trading Post was very friendly and he offered to get any kind of beer we wanted or food item. We purchased a lot of their fresh vegetables and meats. We drove into Apalachicola one day. The town had fun shops and restaurants. We stopped for lunch at the Apalachicola Coffee and Chocolate company. The food and coffee were great. The kids loved the Gelato the best!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. Everyone asked if we could go again next year, so that was a good sign!
We would recommend Cape Escape rentals, our experience was wonderful!
Dawn Austin (December 2015)
Hi Wendy. I had a fantastic time. I tried to talk Paul into a longer stay but he couldn’t get off work. The place has a fantastic view. Location to the beach is great and my doggies loved it! Walking along the shore and collecting seashells was very relaxing and shells were plentiful. A quite yet treasure of a beach to say the least. Even though the weather was iffy I got some great photos. I will definitely bring my kids down when time permits. That place had plenty of space for a family. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay! Thanks so much.
The Friedensohn Family (August 2015)
We had such a wonderful time. The location was perfect just steps from the beach. All the rooms were nicely decorated, the mattress, pillows & linens were very comfy! The size of the condo was huge and we had plenty of room for our family. I really appreciate that you were able to let us borrow the pack n plays and high chair. We will definitely be back!
The Starn Family (June 2015)
The condo was beautify, the beach was beautiful and the wedding was beautiful. Such a perfect setting. We enjoyed our stay!
Melissa Slover and Family
We truly enjoyed ourselves at the Cape. What a beautiful place. It’s like REAL Florida. Who when we still had such beautiful beaches! The condo was gorgeous and very accommodating. Very convenient access to the beach with million dollar views! The sunsets were some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen!
The dogs really enjoyed the beach. It was a new experience for them. It was great fun to watch them. All the people we met were very nice and friendly. We even went horseback riding on the beach with Broke a Toe and they were great to work with.
Thank you for helping make our trip as enjoyable as possible. I am more than happy to serve as a reference if you ever need one. I’m sure we’ll be making trips back to the Cape and back to Shore Thang.
Elaine Hoffman (November 2014)
We had a great time at Barrier Dunes. The condo (Barrier Dunes 2 – Shore Thang) was immaculate and very pleasant to stay. We even swam Saturday in the heated pool. Delightful.
You and Soni are fantastic!! Great job and thanks for everything.
Janice Brown (July 2014)
What a wonderful week we all had. The weather was perfect except for today, so we decided to go ahead and head home.
As usual the condo was everything we expected. How early can I make reservations for next year and is there a discount if I wanted to stay for 2 weeks?
Again, thank you for everything.
Joe, Debby & Katie Lowes (November 2013)
We miss our vacation already!
The Cape Escape met all of our great expectations and we’ll definitely be back again. Our dog, Katie, had the best time as we did too! We met some great people from other states who loved the Barrier Dunes too!
So we hope you have a great winter next year and we’ll certainly be looking forward to returning! Thanks for all of the great amenities in Barrier Dunes #2 – Shore Thang, it was awesome!
Judy and Peter Nowotarski (September 2013)
We had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect, the fishing was good and we made some new friends!
Can’t wait to come visit again.
Bernadette Scruggs (July 2013)
Our vacation arrangements were made simple by the condo owner’s prompt contact and excellent directions- right down to our arrival at the unit. That the condo was quite roomy, was located directly on the beach, had four balconies and included amenities like beach chairs, coolers, and other necessities (dish soap, laundry detergent, starter paper products), helped make this one of the nicest vacation spots my family has had the pleasure to enjoy.
