The "Forgotten Coast" of Florida is in the Northwest Florida Panhandle. The "Forgotten Coast" is located just down the road from Destin, between Panama City and Apalachicola. It is bounded on the West by Mexico beach, St. Joe Beach and Port St. Joe. On the East you come to Simmons Bayou, Cape San Blas, Indian Pass, Apalachicola, St. George Island, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, Ochlockonee Bay and Panacea. Each area is a bit differerent--all are pristine, uncrowded, uncommercialed & unspoiled! Come enjoy the "other" Florida-- Old Florida at it's finest.
Cape San Blas is between Port St. Joe and Apalachicola, and, in our humble opinion, the best of the best! Cape San Blas, FL consistently ranks in the top 10 BEST BEACHES in the USA--ranking #1 in 2002! Frommers just announced their top 10 destinations for 2010 and included in the honorees is the Florida Panhandle Beaches!
Cape San Blas is close enough to all the excitement you'll need, yet peaceful, quiet, uncrowded and extremely family friendly! It reminds me of the Old Florida beaches when I grew up (I'm a Sarasota native!)
GUEST COMMENTS: Jan Mitcham--August 2009 ..."...SO relaxing, so unspoiled and once again, the friendliest people I've ever met everywhere you go!" Mary Willis--April 2008 "... the beach one of the best, if not THE best, we have ever experienced ..." Sally Squibb -- April/May "I truly had no idea such a paradise existed." April Allman--June 2008 "I have vacationed on St. George Island for the past 10 years and Mexico Beach twice and I can honestly say Cape San Blas tops them all. Loved the Pelican and will be coming back!" The Huxford Family--July 2008 "We couldn't believe how peaceful it is on the Cape. One morning we went out to the beach at 8:30 and I counted 5 other people as far as I could see in either directions! That was a welcome departure from other overcrowded, over-developed beaches."

Often called Cape Sand Blas, Cape Sanblas, Cape San Blass, Cape San Blast, Cape Sand Blast or Cape Sandblas--it's the St. Joseph Peninsula & locals call it simply "The Cape". No matter what you call it--it's a great place to be! You won't find a stop light or a highrise condo here, just miles of uncrowded, unspoiled, dog friendly, pristine, white sand beaches with beautiful St. Joe Bay on one side and The Gulf of Mexico on the other side of the Cape (Barrier Dunes is all Gulf side)! Sounds secluded, but Cape San Blas is close to Port St. Joe (20 min) and Apalachicola (25 min) if you are in need of additional action during your vacation!
If you are looking for a warm and friendly beach community that takes pride in a relaxing atmosphere and limited development, this is the place for you. With 20 miles of soft white beaches and spectacular sand dunes nestled between the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the pristine St. Joseph Bay, Cape San Blas, FL is one of the last remaining undiscovered beach sanctuaries along the beautiful Florida Panhandle--definately one of the last uncrowded ones!

Ally Heeley, May 2009 " I've been to many beaches (St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Barts just to name a few) but none have beat this beach! "
Cape San Blas, FL is a narrow strip of land jutting out into the Gulf & separating the
Gulf of Mexico & St. Joseph Bay. The beach along Cape San Blas was ranked No. 1 in the United States by Dr. Beach (Stephen Leatherman) in 2002 (see Dr. Beaches "America's Best Beach"). The beautifully pristine sand, clean water and beach, whispering sea oats & majestic sand dunes were much of the reason behind the award of "2002 Best Beach in America." The white sand beaches of Cape San Blas, Florida (St. Joseph Peninsula) are among the most beautiful beaches in America.
Cape San Blas, FL offers a quiet beach setting for families and friends in an "Old Florida" atmosphere. Come to Cape San Blas, FL and capture the essence of yesterday with the amenities of today!
Excellent snorkeling and diving awaits at St. Joseph Bay which offers the alternative lure of fine fishing, crabbing, and scalloping. You can rent ocean kayaks at Scallop Cove or Happy Ours (both on Cape San Blas) and explore the grass flats of the Bay, go scalloping or just enjoy the beautiful views! You can paddle for miles in less than 2 feet of water. You may find bay scallops, sting ray, dolphin, fiddler crabs, horseshoe crabs, star fish or octopi, among other things.
At the end of the Cape, right next door to Barrier Dunes, is the incredibleSt. Joseph Peninsula State Park. St. Joseph Peninsula State Park has miles of white sand beaches, striking dune formations, a forested interior and a favorable climate for year-round outdoor recreation. The 2,516-acre park is bounded on three sides by the waters of St. Joe Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The park's sandpipe scrub, pine flatwoods and dunes provide a refuge for more than 200 species of birds, including bald eagles, ospreys and endangered peregrine falcons. In autumn, migrating monarch butterflies and hawks stop here on their annual flight to Mexico. It is filled with deer, bobcats, raccoon, butterflies, and birds of every description.
The northern end of St. Joseph State Park is a designated wilderness preserve. From the end of the road to the tip of the peninsula are 7 1/2 miles of primitive shoreline with trails and limited boat Chance are you won't run into another soul; so if you have the urge to skinny dip --- this is your spot. Our favorite spot is the tip of the Cape! Rent a boat and take a ride out and see it--you won't be sorry!
As you are sure to see, Cape San Blas is indeed a nature lovers paradise. From Wildflower and
Birding Events, to the Annual Scallop Festival, numerous fishing tournaments, kayaking tours, state-of-the-art marina, festivals, live entertainment and shopping close at hand, the Cape San Blas & Port St. Joe area is sure to please everyone--young and old!
Certain times of year it seems the Forotten Coast should be called the Festival Coast! Counties, towns, businesses and individuls pool resources to organize and host some increidble events every year. Serveral events held in the Cape San Blas, Indian Pass & Cr-30A area deserve some special mention as you are planning your vacation dates!
The local festival season kicks off in May when the owners of Happy Ours Kayak and Canoe Outpost on Cape San Blas, along with the Gulf County Chamber of Commerce, sponsor the annual St. Joseph Bay Cleanup and Kayak Festival. The event offers an opportunity for poeple to help preserve the St. Joe Bay's ecosystem and have a good time doing it. Partipate in this festival and you will get to ride free of charge in kayaks and canoes from Happy Ours, Scallop Cove and Seahorse Water Safaris and if you own your own boat you can launch at no cost at Presnell's Marina and St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. There is a big "trash weigh in" at the end and there are prizes for things like the most trash collected and the most unique thing brought in--they have yet to identify what the peice was one year!
Guest Comments-
"It is truly amazing how untouched it is. We were repeated surprised & thrilled by the vastness & emptiness of the beach. It is so rare, if not nonexistent. Margo Thomas, August 2008
"We are so in love with the beach, the fine sand, the dunes, the serenity & the miles and miles of beach to stroll on." Leticia Gonsette, August 2006.
"We were amazed on how quiet it is there and how friendly everyone is. We said that if we were coming to Florida, we will go no where else but Cape San Blas. We have been to Daytona, Miami, Key West, St. Augustine, Tampa & Orlando, but they do not compare to the Cape. Melissa Tessmer, September 2007

Thank you for the prompt refund (security deposit)! We had a wonderful time & the rental fully exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed Cape San Blas, it's definitely the prettiest beach I've ever been on, and the sand dunes are amazing. I don't think any words or pictures can truly do them justice, you just have to see them in person. I'm so glad you posted on Craigslist, we never would have found this great spot on our own. Well, we hated to leave and I'm sure we'll make our way back, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks again.
Another Spectacular Cape San Blas Sunset!
(Some call it Cape San Blass, Cape Sand Blas, Cape Sand Blass, Cape Sand Blast or the St. Joseph Peninsula! It's OK just to call it "The Cape".)

These are our children who have loved are regular trips to Cape San Blas--we have a lot of wonderful memories from Cape San Blas trips and look forward to making lots more! They have enjoyed a lot of freedom at the Cape since it's so safe!
